Thanks Pared. I didn't know if I was missing something or not. I'm assuming that the storylines that we hear from DS are going to be from the real world storylines and not our own dynasty.

Re: Official NBA Live 10 Impressions Thread

Guys, for those who doesn't like rebounds gotta work some more, because after a 12-14 match i start battling for rebounds, and it's pretty fun, you actually gotta get your body up for the rebs, it feels just as real life, when you start getting this believe me. There are still so many 2k blood in me so that i'm expecting my bigs to get them, but you gotta do what you gotta by yourself in this game which is a great feeling.

I lost 19 games out of 20 on all star and i am enjoying every moment of my loses, because they were all legit ones not like cpu cheated, they did the right things in the right times with the right guys that's all. And with all the games played i try to do somethings different which opens up my game and then you see that cpu reacting what you do accordingly, it's a fu.king chess match just like real life. Now i'll go to my friends to play some fifa 10.

I had a similar game just now with the Nets (me) vs. Heat. For 3 quarters it was back-and-forth and going into the 4th, Miami was up 4 points.

I proceed to go 4:30 without making a basket while Miami hits 8 shots in a row, including 2 fall-away 3's by Michael Beasley (wtf!!!) and before you know it, I'm down 20

And yes, I tried to spur the tide by calling timeouts (2, in fact) but still couldn't get anything to go my way.

Re: Official NBA Live 10 Impressions Thread

I'm really not bothered by the high number of contact/collision animations in the paint anymore because the more I learn the ins and outs of Live the less I see them. In most cases they do not happen unless you're forcing a lay up when you don't have a lane. Sometimes you do get sucked into an animation that leads to a collision and that is annoying.

If you stay focused on the paint and watch how many defenders the CPU has in there you will find that it's pretty realistic in terms of when you can get a clean lay up off and when you can't. Sometimes you think you're by a defender and you're really not (looking at the replay from different angles will show this). This isn't 2K where you can be "kinda" past a guy, press the shoot button and some animation magically warps you past/through your defender.

The last game I played (USA vs Japan, started a FIBA tourney) I really focused on the opponent defenders in the paint. If I had an iso with Kobe but there was a help defender sagging far into the paint my strategy would be get shake the first defender and then do a little float/leaner/fadeaway instead of trying to posterize a CPU defender every single time I get past my intial defender. I smoked Japan by 30 and rarely saw a collision animation.

At the same time I'd pay attention (mostly happened when I ran a play) and the lane would really open up. I think I had three dunks (Melo, Wade, LBJ) in a half court set where I was able to get down the lane, pretty realistic IMO. I don't want a dunkfest or even a layup fest. Plenty of times with those guys though I'd shoot little leaners at 10-15' feet and I was slaying the defense.

I guess what I'm finding is that you need to avoid over-penetration, really pay attention to help defense, get used to pulling at 10-15' regularly and you'll be a-okay.

Is this becoming commonplace in your experience, or was this just a one time thing?

One thing that I've noticed is that Live captures "runs" very well in this game, both bad and good. You'll go through 4-5 minute spurts when your team is taking good shots and making everything, but you'll also experience cold spells when it feels like you couldn't hit water if you fell out of a boat. And to me, none of it feels scriped - it all flows with the pace of the game.

For instance, I was playing as the Bulls against the Celtics in Boston. Now apart from the first 4 of 5 minutes of this game, I really never had a chance. I was down by 15-20 points for what seemed like most of the game. But, I had 2 or 3 solid runs of 8 or 10 points each that even though I never thought I was going to win the game, kept me thinking that I still had a chance. It was just like watching a lot of the Bulls games in real life, and I loved it. I knew Boston was going to beat me, but I tried to hang with them as best I could.

Even when you get down early, you still have to take good shots and move the ball around. You can't just keep jacking up 3's (not referring to you) even when you're wide open, and expect the ball to go in the basket every time. Once they patch the lack of fouls, it should be much more beneficial trying to get to the basket as well - you just have to pick your spots to do so.

Look, this game has plenty of flaws, but it's still a great sim and one hell of a fun game to play. I'm picking up 2K today because of the Franchise Mode (and it still has pretty solid gameplay too), but Live is going to be a staple of my video game playing well into the summer.

Good advice, ehh. I've found this to be true, too. I was so enamored with the freestyle control and size-up moves that I was forcing things into the paint and thus, those contact animations were happening.

Another thing I've stopped doing is trying to go immediately back up for a putback with a big man. If it's there, I'll take it but if there's a few guys around me after I grab the offensive board, I kick the ball back out and call another play.

Yeah, I agree with this completely. Most gamers, sim-heads included, have been used to getting to the basket pretty much whenever they wanted to because there was really no risk/reward system in place - mostly just reward. I'm still finding myself driving the lane way too much and getting these collision animations, but it's because I shouldn't be driving the lane at those times in the first place. It's just an adjustment that all of us have to make.

On a side note, I'm having a blast playing the FIBA games. I lost my first game to Turkey because I just kept trying to go one-on-one with Kobe, LeBron, Wade, etc. and I just stopped moving the ball around to get good shots.

Re: Official NBA Live 10 Impressions Thread

Just to be clear, the slashing issue is not with the user. The CPU loves to drive and force contact and throw up horrible looking shots and get fouled or most times not get fouled and that is how the game scripts the shooting percentages. I never seen a bball game where most drives from the CPU result in crazy shots and half go in. CPU slaves and throws up off balace shots, or shoots 3's or turn around jumpers. That is it for the most part. I love the strategy in the game but what good does it fo when the animation
                        plain suck

for now people are loving the game for improving on last year in some cases but within a month you will start to see the real feelings

There are definitely some ugly animations and crazy shots by the CPU, but I'm not seeing it with the frequency that you are, at least not yet. Or maybe I am, and it just doesn't bother me as much. This game does so much right that a few bad animations per 12-minute quarters just doesn't seem to bother me.

But, I can see where you're coming from on this for sure - that's why I bought 2K as well. I get get my graphics/animations fix there!
