    Signature Shot notebook

Since there's no "true" practice mode (Hangar is nice but we have no control over what players show up), I thought it'd be a good idea to start up a thread where we discuss players' signature shots and what release points produce the best results. This way, when we use different teams, we'll have an idea of how to get the best production out of each player.

I'll start with a few players on the Nuggets:

Carmelo Anthony: guy is money in the 15-18 foot range. His release point is on the quick side, meaning you don't have to hold the shot button down very long. He can hit the step-back jumper with ease and also hits a J after a quick jab-step. Off-ball screens work well for him too, as he can shoot in rhythm from the mid-range.

JR Smith: Dude is a gunner. He can go very hot or very cold. Like Melo, his release point is on the quick side. He can spot up for 3's and will also pull up on breaks and shoot a 3 just as often as he'll drive the lane and throw down a monsterous dunk. He needs more separation than Melo to get off a successful shot as he doesn't fare well with a hand in his face, so try and get him open with off-ball screens or screen and rolls.

Chauncey Billups: Mr. Big Shot has a "classic" release, meaning hold that X (or square for PS3) button down until he's at the apex of his jump and then release. Top of the key 3's are a hot spot and he can also hit mid-range jumpers off of screens. He can create and hit jumpers with a step-back but don't look for a lot of 1-on-1 moves from him.

Kenyon Martin: Awkward shot but is effective with that 12-15 foot J. Hold the shot button down a few seconds and then release. Post moves aren't great but are serviceable.

Nene: Has a nice face-up jumper. Release point is something I don't have quite down yet, but he's more in the range of Billups than JR or Melo, so hold that button down until he gets to the top of his jump. Has a good spin move in the post thanks to his speed. Can also hit a fadeaway jumper from the block.

That's all I've got for now. Hopefully others will see fit to contribute and build this thing up.

Tmac and Rasheed both have some long releases at first they felt broken because they don't really follow the animation like other players shots. But once I started to hold X it went in a bit more.

    Edit:

Nevermind on Tmac his shot is just broken Lol. He has the most inconsistent release I have ever seen I'll let someone else figure that one out

LeBron's is deceptively quick. It definitely takes some getting used to, because it kind of doesn't look or feel right. But once you get it down, he can can 3's pretty consistently. I think i'm shooting like 35% with him in my Franchise which isn't totally awful. His mid range jumper is freakin deadly though.

Moe Williams is sort of long. He does sort of this hitch thing in his release, I can't really describe it, it's very subtle but you'll know it when you use him. Release right as he hitches and it's money. He's deadly from everywhere on the floor. He's also the streakiest shooter the Cavs have, because once he gets rolling it seems like you can hit any shot you want with him.

Delonte West's is fairly easy. It's a little long, but it's pretty standard. Not much to describe here.

Big Z's release is a little bit long too. It's pretty easy to understand, but pretty difficult to master. You'll go games where he's hitting every jumper he takes from the elbow, and games where you get none of them.

I have no idea about Shaq's. Frankly I find him to be pretty useless other than for rebounding. I pretty much only use him for thunderdunks.

From what I saw, the key to all the jumpshots was to release at the peak of the jump. I found that looking at the player's feet (to see the jump) was the best way to time the releases, which takes adjustment when i'm used to looking at the shot to time the the release.

I'm going to try another game with the Celtics. First game I tried running some pick-and-pops with 'Sheed and couldn't hit a single jumper. Everything was bricking off the rim. I'll try to hold the button a little longer and see what it produces.

On most shots this is true but Tmac's shot imo doesn't work at all w/ this method neither does Wallace.

It almost seems like there shots weren't properly tuned before the release of the game.

Because I don't have nearly as much of a problem with other players when I shoot this way.

Ray Allen and Steph Curry are killing me, anyone got those down yet? I shot 0-8 from beyond on the arch the only time I used Curry. In the Hangar with Ray Ray I couldn't even make three in a row when playing around with tons of different releases! Embarassing.

Wilson Chandler's is hella late, there's a big hitch to it. Gallinari's is also pretty late.

You should wait for the hitch in the shot before shooting it w/ Curry where as with Allen you want to shoot it all in one fluid motion.
