HOW N HELL DO U PLAY DEFENSE ON THIS GAME?

I like this game but how do u defend on here i have no idea on how u play defense. Im in a dynasty getting blown by. my rec is 2-6 and im playing with the los angeles championchip lakers wtf?
Im really trying to give this game a chance but day by day I get more
and more frustrated with the lackluster D that live has.
I bought Nba 2k10 and Nba Live 10 but the defense on live doesn't
exist to me. Nba 2k10 gives e for effort on D lock down D.
If anyone has any idea's or tips let me know because im getting close
to making my way to gamestop for trade in credit.....

Change the defensive settings like double teams and how tight the players should be guarded. Also use the defensive assist (RB on 360) every once and a while.

Learn the DNA Scouting report of the layers, and play situation/position defense.

You canot defend by rote, and guard everyone the same, in this game. You'll get hammered.

Try to take away the player's strengths and you will do much better.

anticipate players moves and block said move. Or Force your man into a situation thats to your advantage. For example say you are guarding a guard, if you see you got your bigs crowding the paint, force that guard into your bigs direction and you are sure to come up with a stop, block, bad shot, etc....

Remember, too - that is the NBA. You can't STOP a team.

It's your job to direct them to low percentage shots, and by the grace of God hopefully have a higher score than them at the end.

But they're gonna get theirs, rest assured.

Great point in that most people expect a lot of perimeter scoring and lock down d in the game. That is more of college style play. The NBA is open free wheeling drives to the rack. I have been watching a lot of pre season ball and I was amazed to how similar both games portray the real game- D is for sure secondary

Watch certain players tendencies, I play against Dallas a lot and D.Howard will pull the trigger quick from the wing every time.

I try and beat him to the spot, and make sure you have a quick finger and switch out and guard the shooters, cause the AI will not.

Also use the double team B button, cuts down on drives to the basket

This cannot be stated enough times. The DNA is the key. You have to THINK like a coach in this game. You cannot afford to take one possession off on either end of the floor.

Against teams that have multiple players that can beat you, it's pick your poison.

I find Dallas to be extremely difficult to play against. They have Dirk who can beat you from anywhere, Howard can drive and shoot, and oh btw they have Jason Terry and JKidd. Any tips?

No one likes a true sport sim game as much as I do but I am starting to believe that if you really have to read and study "DNA" or "player tendencies" to play defense, that maybe they have gone a bit too far with the whole sim thing. If thats truly what it takes to play defense that is.

I want to know how to stop perimeter shooters in head to head matchups since DNA tendencies go out the window when you're playing another human player.

Its not necessarily studying the DNA but you do gotta know what every player on the court is capable of, for example you should not play tight defense on Rajon Rondo because he has no jump shot.

Look at DNA to see who your best on-ball defender is. I play with the Bulls and Hinrich is a tremendous defensive player so i either put him on the 1 or 2 gurad, whoever is their biggest threat.

Try mixing in a trap zone every once in a while too.

I kept trying to play it but this game flat out sucks.

AI sucks
Animations suck
Passing suck
Post Game Sucks
Perimeter Defense Sucks
Bigs are just as good Ball Handlers as guards
Runs are scripted
Everybody is always out of position


This is arcade ball at its finest
