    Live 10: The Receipts

Sales numbers are in the first week of things.

    Live did the following.

99,000 copies sold for both systems.

i didnt think they would get trounced as soundly as they did to 2k this time round.

only one week and patches will help boost or deter sales in the coming weeks and months.

by the way, 2k tallied over 235, 000

    Its sad really..

Live10 is amazing and the good far outweigh the bad IMO. I guess it just comes down to broken promises in years past.

Wow.. huge disparity. Didn't realize there was that much of a gap between the two.

Yup casual fans definitely stick to what they're used to, and with Live being as bad as it was the last couple years, 2K fans really had no reason to switch if they were satisfied with 2K9. No one on my friends list aside from people that I met on OS bought Live.

I am really surprised by that I also thought it would be a lot closer than that.

Yep, people stick with the devil they know, as opposed to the devil they don't [or in the case of past nba lives, is that vice versa? lol]

It will take a few years for Ea to overtake in sales. Word of mouth helps.
The Metacritic score gap has closed. last I checked for ps3 it was 83 for 2k
            80 for live.

but yep, past transgressions caused this.

Keep in mind, its one week.

there could be ship jumpers after the patch.

but for sure, the people who are casuals are buying 2k in droves, obviously.

              Re: Live 10: The Receipts

Not surprising! I went to Lamestop and they were preaching 2k to death and knocking Live.

Even though the guy never played either! He said,"2k is better"! I said I played both demos and like Live more!

He said," I heard from friends that 2k is the best man, you might want to get that one. They said Live is terrible again like every year"!

You have retail outlets dissing the game and straying customers, I'm surprised they even sold that many! Must have been total sales at Best Buy or something, because that's sad.

On and by the way, Wal-Mart has it tagged at $79.99 in their retail outlets. I went to multiply Wal-Mart's and saw them selling Live for $80 and 2k10 ant $60. That will damage sales too!

Sorry I'm snitching on these stores, but I could give a **** less. Live deserves better this season.

The wii version has not yet been released. Early November.

                    Not really that surprising.

It will take a couple of years before EA will start seeing real benefits in terms of sales.

They are doing the right things (building a good game), but it will simply take time to change the general mindset. Building a consistently good game each year is the only way to do that. It may come a bit slower than EA would like, but it's the only way back for them now. Gimmicks and flashy marketing wont cut it anymore.

Their market share will come if they keep doing what they're doing.

I'd be interested to know how the sales are compared to last years though...

If Live keeps going the direction it is going, things will change. EA turned the FIFA series around and made it the best soccer game on the market and they can do the same thing with Live. If they continue to focus their time and making the gameplay right they'll be just fine.

                        True, good, great points.

I wonder now how Ea let the game slip so far into the abyss in the first place? Were they listening to gamers who were complaining a few years ago? Or since they were in the lead, were they ignoring the cries? Glad this team is all ears.

                          Re: Live 10: The Receipts

Live 10 is ahead of 2k10 in game play for the most part. Where Live 10 lags is in superstars playing like superstars on the court.

2K10 has a far better dynasty mode. Live's is very disappointing and limiting word of mouth for the game.

                            Re: Live 10: The Receipts

It's cyclical. 2k is going down and Live is going up now. A lot of 2k fans are dissatisfied. They bought the game on pre-order, but they are really unhappy now. There is also a large disparity in reviews for 2k... from under 7 to over 9. I think that it depends on 'if you can deal with the frame rate problem and various glitches.'

I'm not a fanboy, I want the better game. I could care less which game sold more or got better reviews... but until 2k shows gigantic change (maybe even a total revamp like Live did in 07), I can't see myself even renting (although last year I did pick up 2k9 on pc... prolly won't get 2k10 unless they fix said 'glitches'.)

EA could just dump the game on the market for $20 for a season, build up a following of people who tried it just for the price and now that they've been playing it's the "norm", then next year go back to full price. I bet a lot of those who tried it because it was cheap will stick with it because it's familiar. I wonder has this ever been tried and if it has, has it ever worked?
