NEW JERSEY FAILS IN BID TO FIND VICTORY!

DALLAS - The Dallas Mavericks proved to be too much for the struggling Nets to handle, handing NJ their 18th straight loss 113-98. Former prizon camp guard Dirk Nowitzki led the way with 34 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists.

Well, my first attempt went as pitiful as expected.

Level: Pro (with some slider tweaks)
    Minutes: 11
    Clothes: Gym shorts, Pepsi T-shirt

From whatever reason, I picked the Dallas game first and while I hung around most of the game, they were just too much down the stretch. Dallas outscored me 35-27 in the 4th, cruising to victory.

Kidd in particular just decided that he was NOT going to let Dallas be NJ's first victim, and proceeded to put the team on his back. He went 5-6 in the 4th quarter (one of them a 3), and dropped 4 dimes. For some guys, that's a solid night's work. On the night he had 14 assists.

Nowitzki also had a big 4th quarter, scoring 10 and pulling down 4 rebs, and tossing in an assist for good measure. He had 34/14/5 on the night. That is one bad asz German.

But the main nemesis was Terry. Jason Terry absolutely lit me up, scoring 34 on 13-22 from the field. It wasn't even so much as the number of points scored, but when he scored them. I pulled within 4 on a few different occassions, but each time, he answered with a huge bucket. Truly a thorn in my side. Seemd every time I turned around, he was catching a pass wide open and he start going into his shooting motion and I'd be like "Oooh nooo!!" and he let it go... SWISH!! (my shoulders would sag)

For the Net's, no suprise here, Devin Harris was my go-to guy, scoring 32, with 4 rebs and 4 assists. Backup guard Douglas Roberts also contributed big, scoring 23.

I think I'd be dead if not for the "Angle CF" play. It was my go-to play, and helped me stay close. Basically, it's: Set Harris a screen and watch him drive. It worked though, and Douglas used it a lot too. I also posted Lopez a lot. Brook Lopez had very solid night, scoring 16 with 15 rebounds.

    Next Up: The Lakers!

Played the Lakers game last night. Close game until the Lakers went on a videogame 23-11 run to close out the 4th. 12 minutes AllStar, default everything.

      Nets 102
      Lakers 109

Devin Harris and Brook Lopez carried the squad. 24 & 28 shot attempts, Lopez had 26/14, Harris had 33/4 asts. Harris kept me in it at the line, though the real rough patches were when I sat him. Don't sit Lopez & Harris together.

Nets led all though the first half with the lead as big as 8 with Harris on the bench.

Lakers came out like gangbusters in the third and went up as much as 12 but the Nets tightened up and a Devin Harris stepback after Farmar went under the screen gave the Nets a 80-79 lead going into the 4th.

In the 4th it was Ron Artest from 3, Derek Fisher and 1s and assorted unstoppable Mamba stuff. I had gotten Kobe in foul trouble early, but Phil Jackson kept him in when he got his 4th with 10 left in the third and it was no different when he got his 5th eariy in the 4th. Just like the 3rd he shrugged it off and lead the Lakers to a big run.

Advice: Don't waste time with Rafer Alson. His rating and percentages are misleading as they don't truly reflect his worthlessness. CDR & Courtney Lee are your 2nd best bets after the aforementioned two and Josh Boone does work on the boards, as does Sean W to a lesser degree. The variety of pick and rolls, either through sets like Fist or just through pick & roll control is crucial. Harris should be able to abuse both old PGs in this challenge by utilizing screens. The guys that aren't worthless all have decent off the dribble ratings so don't be afraid to take momentum and step back jumpers when the defense is giving you room on the move. The Swing post for Lopez is great for setting him up alone on the block as well as getting guys moving and open. Don't waste time taking a three with anyone who's name fits on the jersey. Don't forget Brooke has a serviceable jumper as well as post game.

Good write up Kid, sounds like a cool game.

I tried the Lakers Challenge this time, and while I kept it close for a while, they came on strong in the 4th and I just couldn't get it done.

        Lakers 95
        Nets 90
        Level: Pro (with slider adjustments)
        Minutes: 11

Kobe was particularly Kobe-Like, scoring 14 in the 14th, on a variety of jumpers, drives and free throws.

As has been the case so far, Harris and Lopez were the main contributors. Davin Harris was great, scoring 30 with 3 rebs and 4 assists. I mostly run screens for him.

Surprisingly for me though, Alston was indeed a solid contributor, scoring 21 and 3 assists. He had a couple of key 3s in a nice run I had in the 3rd, when I actually took a 4pt lead.
Boone was also quite productive, scoring 14 with 13 rebs.

The Lakers were their usual championship calibre self, led by Kobe's 32, and Gasol's 12/15/6 (what a beast!). Fisher had 17 and 6 assists.

The Kid (above) had some great advice about the way to play the Net's, I agree with almost all of it. Let Lopez and Harris carry the day on offense, it's almost a waste of time to try and shoehorn other guys into the mix. I used the screen effectively, with Harris taking it all the way to the hole almost exclusively.

Boone can be an effective rebounder, but I've learned with him DO NOT try and take it back up. It's mostly just a waste of time. He simply misses. When he gets a board, I just take it back out and reset.

Excellent challenge, definitely a lot of fun. I might just give it another go.

          Two words: Devin Harris.

Won the back half of the challenge vs the Mavs, and it was never close.

The Nets flipped reality on its head by serving up a 69 point first half and never let the Mavs get closer than 6 (in the third) and going on a 12-0 run in the 4th when the Mavs had cut the lead to 8. Brook Lopez also put up numbers as did CDR, but the whole team showed up. Bobby Simmons hit 3 backbreaker threes to suck the life out of separate Maverick runs & Courtney Lee filled in admirably as the backup for both the 1 & 2.

(Not pictured: Sean Williams 6/5/1blk) (Nets had 10 TOs to Mavs 12, Nets had 5 stls, 11 blks, 30 asts) 12 Mins, Allstar default.

Um 50% from the field and 3? You beat them in every stat category so I'm a bit pessimistic...

What was your difficulty, what were your sliders at and props if this is actually real....

It is in the post, same settings Czar described and the ones I use regularly: 12 Mins, All Star, default everything.

ok, I'm just skeptical because even with celtics or lakers people don't shoot those percentage on a none rewind DNA game so unless you were only making layups or dunks without any midrange game it's just hard to believe the nets shoot that percentage when that night NBA stats show 44% and 34% for then.

the NBA live CPU defense is tough and there's alot of bugs in the game that prevent good offense.

then again I see no reason someone would make up a win so I won't bust your balls just hard to believe anyone would win this challenge

Great writeups guys !!!! Thanks for takin part and big shot out Kid man great fricken victory. My scores have been too embarrasinv to post. Let's just say I didn't win either game. LOL

I'll play good basketball but it's just too easy firths other team to hit you for a 10 point run that your offense can't answer then I get frustrated and start making bonehead plays ......

Great job to everyone who attempted this madness Kids got me fired up about trying again!!!!!!

Well yeah 50% games are rare but they happen. Rewind doesn't lock you in to that night's percentages, I think people get it confused and think Rewind DNA does more than it claims to. You still play the game, there isn't a script you're loosely sticking to. It is based off what players are doing going into the game, not what they did in the game.

Czar, I hear you on the runs. If I wasn't doing the challenge, those Laker runs would've broke the game right open, and while the one in the 4th did, it was only tough D that got me back from the 3rd quarter run. The Mavs played more uptempo and didn't have the help D of the Lakers, both of which helped the Nets immensely.

I'm actually able to play starters vs starters pretty even.

The problem is that Brook Lopez cannot stay on the court LOL... The second I have to go into the bench, the game is over.
