I have heard many people say that Live's post game is bland, and it is. But they also say that with more post moves/animations it would improve. I disagree.
I believe the problem w/ Live's post game is it lacks realistic physicality. There is, in my opinion, a whole level of pressure (through the left stick) that would make the post game much more interesting. Meaning that pressure = power. Fouls, drop steps, flops... those are all results of applied pressure.
In the NBA Live post game, there is a suction moment where the two players go into 'posting up.' Once this happens, you can drop step, shoot, or disengage. On defense, you can flop or go for the steal. THAT'S ALL, right? Am I forgetting something?
Imagine what it'd be like if there was no engage animation and there was a realistic space between post offense and defense. I could press hard into someone and that would be like a Shaq shoulder bump. On defense, I could quickly pull back when the offensive player tried to make a move and 'pull out the chair.' These are just examples. I don't want to type out every possibility, but that's pretty simplistic. Can't understand why it's not that way.
It would also require a separate rating for strength as well as mass. Mass would be sort of 'strength at rest' where as strength would be 'maximum bumping potential.'
Maybe I am a nerd, but just thinking about this, properly implemented, makes me giddy. It would change the interior game completely... even without new 'scoring animations.'
