Re: Beluba : EA just wanted to make a different game than I had a vision for...

well, I will give both games a fair chance like I do every year - I will be downloading both demos and basing my judgement on that. I will play both demos and let the gameplay speak for itself. but, it certainly doesn't sound good with quotes like "they wanted to make a different type of game."

We know Mike is all about sim, so the article implies that Live wants to move away from sim....which is not good at all...I don't see how EA thinks going in a different direction will improve their sales, but hey, it's their game to screw up if they choose.

If those bigger and better things, is your competition.... you guys ethered yourselves, especially after him leaving them for you, only to go back to them. I can only imagine what Live is gonna look like in the fall. Now that Mark Turmell is there, I hope it not NBA Jam Live 11.

That whole other thread with BackFlash was nothing more than Damage Control.

Re: Beluba : EA just wanted to make a different game than I had a vision for...

I will give the Live 11 demo a few days of fair play and see how the gameplay is - it's all on EA to prove they can or can't do it...it's all on them - if they want to make the better game, then they will...if they don't want to make the better game, then it will show in the gameplay on the demo.

I guess they figure they can sell games just on the "EA brand name" and they don't have to try to compete with 2k. But the last couple of years have shown that EA's brand name doesn't mean much, since 2k has been out-selling them. In the age of metacritic and downloadable demos, a company's brand name doesn't mean anything anymore - it's all about the quality of the game and how well it's reviewed...online review scores determine sales...that is all there is to it.

If Live 11 were to get a perfect 10 on IGN and Gamespot, then Live would take back all the momentum - all they have to do is make a better game. Whether or not they want to make a better game...that will be apparent when the demo drops.

The gameplay will do all the talking - I'll know within 3 minutes of playing the demo if they've gone in the wrong direction.

Flash is new to the whole media game...and I am guessing he just learnt a pretty big lesson. "Going on to bigger and better" when it's your competition is very strange vocab to use.

Unless of course Flash had no idea Beluba had joined the opposition.

I can't imagine him having knowledge of that and still making that statement. Either way it's Ether.

I don't know what this means for NBA Live, but with NBA 2k10 already being a pretty good game post patch, 2k can only go up from here, and that really spells trouble for NBA Live. They keep saying they are still going the sim direction, but with EA you just can't believe that. Especially with them having to do so much work with the game they have now. Not as much as in the past, but still trying to catch 2k just got THAT much harder.

Man this is some of the biggest gaming news of the year right here. Huge news. I havrn't ever seen a Lead jump ship, work on a game, almost fix it, then leave to go back and bash the game he just made on the way out.

Just some heavy stuff in that article.

One things for sure, the LIVE forums are going to be very quiet come LIVE 11. It's already a ghost town in here most weeks, but most of the hard core guys 'came over' to see what Beluba could bring.

I've got to admit that I have hung in there with this series basically on that whole "vision" Beluba was selling on LIVE. The whole "I have this great idea for what I can do with a basketball sim".

Live 09 they said was too early...LIVE 10 they said was just half way there...

For him to bail out now...and not just bail out, but absolutely slam EA and their basketball team / say they are inefficient / have no idea / aren't going in the direction he wants / only care about sales numbers etc. I mean, his comments are brutal.

I know Flash will jump in here and say "we have the team, we love basketball etc"...but it's all rhetoric from EA. Your main man just crapped all over you. There's no other way to put it.

Personally speaking, I can't see myself being holding much interest in this series from here on.

Wang wanted to offer EA "change" but EA wanted to stay the status quo. All I can say is hell Wang put his money where his mouth is. He left 2k, went to EA, made them a great basketball game, tried to improve on it, EA wanted to do a 180 and Wang did a 180 on EA and went back to 2K.

He tried, and that is all you can really ask for, is to try. Money isn't everything. If something goes against everything you stand for and believe in, then hell you have to draw the line some where and stand your ground.

It's tough to hear, but I agree man. This whole post is just the truth to me. It's still really early, but unless EA has something MAJOR up its sleeve, I see all my focus shifting to what 2k11 can bring.

Im just assuming, but they shouldve had some type of clue. I mean where would Mike go after leaving them, not too many places left that produce basketball games?

I was stoked to see what another year could do for Live 11, but after hearing the exit comments I'm afraid to even try the demo.

It's starting to feel like EA's basketball games are turning into 1999-2000 WCW. The potential is there and all it would take is a bit of patience to get the ship in the right direction and earn back the consumers trust, but nobody seems to want to take a short term hit for much more success in the long run.

Aah the big wigs! this is what's wrong with most companies...they don't care about quality or the hands that feed them. what these guys brought to me was comfort, realizing you were going to get a decent product.

I feel these guy were genuine, and actually cared about a series that was almost dead. I know Mike wasn't on the team long, but this game made serious strides.

I don't know were Live goes from here, EA you got your hands full...this might be the last of the true fans bailing.
