this does not surprise me at all...

its sad to see mike leave but i think the game will be the same as it was going to be had he stayed...

EA was never going to give us a complete product like the other game and i am talking about options, game modes, custom options.

what i dont understand is how they want sales but wont release a top notch product

this game needs way more meat on the bare bones efforts of the last few yrs.

one man was never going to fix this franchise so this is not a big deal IMO

That's what i wanna believe, but when you think ea and live series history, it's really really hard.

Just one last time on BLACKFLASH and that quote...let's go a bit easy on him fellas.

He's a nice guy + just doing his job.

Most people leaving a job always bid their workmates a "you're off to bigger and better things" type speech...so Flash was just being polite.

That quote is best left forgotten from here on

2k passed EA b/c of a better quality game and a more 'sim' experience. But, you want to go a different direction? A direction that floored you in the first place and not a direction that has given you your legs back? Whatever, hope they make a good game, cuz I planned on going Live first again this yr.

if their drive is sales they definately have something up their sleeve..

i hope its not a gimmick like their football....

also mike said the same about 2k when he left, its not like they like change or innovation either but i will admit they seem more dedicated to giving fans a great experience

i am pretty sure he just said the engine was about tapped out on what they can do with it. Thats not really saying anything bad.

My personal belief: EA depends to much on the name "EA". This is why they expect huge sales of their bare bone products. And normally they get it. But the proof is in the numbers in this genre. 2K has dominated sales and this announcement will surely set that in stone again next year.

This really doesn't surprise me and this does support what alot of people believe...EA ONLY cares about making money and is stubborn to the point where they continue to believe they have a superior product to 2K.

It appears Mike Wang had a different vision of how a sim style basketball game should play and the senior guys disagreed, after only one year. Wang is arguably the best basketball game designer on the market and it appears EA is just going knuckle up and tell this guy they don't agree with what his professional opinion is? It's stubborn and comes off as cocky in my opinion. I could see it making more sense if Live was the industry leader in sales for this genre. But acting like this when they don't really have a leg to stand on is mind boggling to me.

In any event, I've rambled on and only stopped in this forum to see what kind of buzz was happening over here. After 6 years of buying both games every year, MAYBE live get's a pre owned purchase from me next year. I won't write it off for good just yet, but I do feel like my time with this series is coming to an end and this was the straw that broke the camels back.

What I can never understand about EA is that they finally showed signs of developing a game that can be borderline brilliant, with things like dynamic dna and instead of refining and perfecting, they have this burning desire to come up with some big sticker item to put on their box, every year.

this is the exact same reason why the NCAA Football and Madden series are so schizophrenic. Every year is new dang "theme"..and they always end up doing something that jacks up the game

Its nothing wrong with that IF your core game is established, but thats not something that has ever been done this gen.

Gameplay changes such as the player now being able to dunk from half-court.

They have issues. The ONLY THING about NBA Live 10 that was "next-gen" and really complelling was the gameplay. The game was stale and feature bare, they finally did something that even the most diehard of the other game's crowd had to admit was really great, they want to go and "fix." Wrong answer. I'm still gonna see what they have in mind, but I feel even less enthused about the prospects for '11 after seeing that.

In all fairness, I was trying out the Live series again on a trial basis, it's hardly about how great their game is, it was more about my disenchantment with the other game and it's issues. Oh well, I guess my demographic doesn't count. Keep catering to the same old crowd you had. Oh, that's right. There was no crowd, they are all playing the other game, too. Just amazing, let's fix what wasn't broken....
                            Note to Tiburon Marketing:

A great product sells itself, no "back of the box" features required! (See Fifa...)

The gameplay was certainly improved, but it did need some improvements as well, most notably, the post game. If they fix that, I'd be really happy.

But yeah, it is scary to hear them talking numerous gameplay changes when for the most part, Live 10's gameplay was spot-on. I play default All-Star and aside from my poor shooting, the stats in this game are always nearly identical to what you see in real life. The floor spacing, plays, half-court game is so well-done that it keeps you coming back for more.

The crowd atmosphere in the game is also well done and the arenas look nice but there needs to be more stat overlays, replays (not just those little highlight packages at random times and replay of EVERY foul) and dynamic commentary.

As a huge fan of the NBA Live I am truly disappointed to hear that Mike has decided to leave the Live franchise. I thought the changes that he had made were great and the game was heading in the right direction. I hope who ever they bring in as the lead gameplay designer will be as dedicated to making the game a true basketball sim.
