    Re: NBA Elite?

As far as analog controls, if it's a tighter, more fluid version of isomotion, then I'm happy with that.

Instead of jumping in the fray with new users, the long time members should let them know that immediate "sky is falling" responses get us nowhere and are simply counter productive.

Again, there's not much more I can offer at this time aside from wait and see. If people have played the game and still hate it, there are no options, etc. then I can understand. Heck, remember all those proclaiming last year's title would un-seat 2k's game as "best basketball game to be released" once they saw what Mike Wang was bringing to the table? Look how that turned out - where are they now?

Just take a deep breath fellas... the release is a long ways away. I'm sure there will be plenty of time to voice concerns but writing off the series already? C'mon. People have stomached sub-par games in the past and all it takes is the word "elite" being thrown out to go crazy.

I for one, HATE the new name. But it's all about the game...
I can't disagree with most of that. I was defending the position of the more moderate but extremely concerned viewpoint. Kinda where Czar is. I definitely don't plan on giving up on the game before I try it and I hope others will at least rent it before writing it off.

For the record I was and still am one of those who thought Live 10 would be better than 2K. I still do think that out of the box it is. Had the patches added a post-up button and slightly more physical defense I would hold that opinion of the patched version. On the other hand it is these very patches along w/EA's track record that scares me to death when they start talking new direction. You can try to be reasonable all you want but I know all, or at least most, of us had to go uh-oh at least a little bit when this stuff started flowing. I was reasonable last year this year I am nervous. Basketball is my favorite sport, I still cry a little when I see MJ highlights. If I lose Live to the shot stick I got nothing in videogame sports left.

I don't know, I like the sound of this so far. I'm not going to get caught up in hype but this sounds more positive than negative. Granted that "starting over" yet again means a whole ton of new bugs that will drive us crazy.

Everyone wanted better animations, it seems like we're getting that.
Enough people wanted a shot-stick, I'm in different on this even as a long time 2Ker.
Seems like dribble moves have been expanded but they're still on the R-stick which is good. I hope it's a simple version of Isomotion, I hate that complicated crap in 2K.

The animations are the big thing for me. More animations and getting rid of the body contact are to huge must-haves for "Elite" 11. lol

The way I see it, the new name, of course, is to try to help shake the stigma of their b-ball franchise but I think the choice of the name "Elite" is to coincide with the new and improved things they are doing with the franchise.
A new, real-time physics engine, like the one to also debut in NHL 11, to rival Euphoria's real-time physics engine? Possibly refined controls? Hmm. Somethings cookin' and I'm liking the smell...even if I don't really care for the name. We'll see what else is revealed.
Just cuz you pour syrup on ish....

Its all about OPTIONS so everyone can enjoy the game there own way and FNR4 was living proof .
But in FNR4 case I like the stick but I wreck 2 controller in a month lol so I went back to button.
In the case of sports games adding the stick I wouldnt play a baseball game using the stick as I feel its very gimicky but NHL 10 and FNR4 did a nice job with it IMO.
Now MLB the show will probably implement one next year , does it bother me no , but they better still have the same button control as a option so we can all enjoy the game in our own way .

              NBA Elite.

Couldn't come up with a better name than that? I don't play live(or elite as they now call it) but, I'm not diggin' the name to much.

Either way being that no one has seen the game it's really not possible to complain about it only to respond to the info we have so far.
I admit i have some sentiment!! but EA did not do well for many years....

This actually makes me interested in NBA Elite(Live) 11. I've always been a fan of the 2K series over Live but this name change makes me curious as to how EA could, perhaps, innovate the basketball series. As people have said MVP and Fight Night both revived their respective sports franchise. Not to mention that both Fifa and NHL have recently received enhancements to the controls and movement of players, maybe EA has something in store for Elite.

And why is everyone over reacting over a title change; whether the game is called Live 11 or Elite 11 I'm sure the same changes to gameplay would have still ocurred. This is just a way for EA to draw attention to their game, and whether you hate it or like it it's a smart choice for EA. You have to also consider the speculation that 2k11 will feature Michael Jordan on the cover, most likely making him (and perhaps other more recent legends) playable characters in the game. If this article just said that EA is releasing Live 11 no one is going to care, but because EA is making a name change people have a reason to talk their game instead of 2Ks.

But in the end it doesnt matter to me if the basketball game I buy is titled 2k11, Live 11, or Elite 11 I just want the best basketball simulation ever.

                        ^ Bingo!

Only time will tell what the game play is like so we all have to wait. EA seems to be on an analog craze right now with all their sports games. As long as they leave an option for face button controls then it's all good.

I don't think most are saying it isn't a very good business move to change the name. For me it just wasn't a great choice but I'm sure after 5 or 6 years it might be just as common as live has become...

While we have every right to be skeptical about this game due to the franchise's poor track record, I think we should wait until more is known about this game before we completely write it off.

It's funny how news of real-time physics in the NHL 11 forum is met with excitement and anticipation yet here it's met with negativity. This actually sounds promising, and has the potential to drastically improve one of the franchises most glaring problems, it's animations.

I'm not bothered by the use of analog controls instead of buttons, if they're responsive, but it would be much smarter if EA gave us the option.

I'll be keeping a close eye on this game, as I'm sure most of the members here will. If ever there was a franchise that needed a change, a fresh start, this is it.

That's because the NHL series has proven itself over the last 4 years.

There's been a ton of skepticism with this because a lot of good devs that had a focus on building a great basketball simulation left because of the direction this game was going. So I can see why people aren't as excited.

My guess for why EA chose the Elite name is a number of reasons. EA is signifying that this is the Elite basketball game on the market. They can also be using Elite to refer to the elite players in the league and suggesting you can now play like these elite players. Perhaps there could be more than one cover athlete, though unlikely, having a number of "elite" players on the cover; however based on the article scan I assume it will be Lebron but you never know.

It will be weird not seeing an NBA Live game hit the market again but I have no doubt in my mind the Elite 11 will be the best basketball game EA has released for next-gen systems, and perhaps ever, as long as the controls are as responsive as the article suggest; however, just like the name change, the gameplay will be something we need to adjust too. The one concern I have about the game is that Mike Wang left the team because he did not like the direction in which the game was going. To me these new additions can do nothing but improve the game so I am curious to how the game turns out. Can't wait to see how the game looks in motion.
