in the game, if hanging in the air makes you shoot long, the whole shooting mechanic is going to feel weird and definitely not realistic. ask any great shooter and they will tell you that in order to get good distance on your shot you need to shoot on the way up so you can use your momentum. the way they have the shot stick set up now is the exact opposite. if this is changed the shot stick will be perfect.

ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL CHANGE TO THE SHOT STICK
the one thing that needs to be changed about the shot stick is that RELEASING EARLY SHOULD MAKE THE BALL GO LONG AND RELEASING LATE SHOULD MAKE THE BALL GO SHORT. this is very important because when you hang in the air you have a tendency to shoot short not long. so if they want it to be realistic they need to change this immediately.

I understand your logic with real life shooting mechanics, but when implementing a new system like this that is supposed to 'feel' correct, you'd think they would be play testing it properly.
And even if they do get it wrong and your assumption is correct, you'll have the demo in September to work it out and then give this sort of feedback.
Here's to hoping the new shotstick shooting mechanic does feel right and reflects real basketball correctly -

Re: ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL CHANGE TO THE SHOT STICK
thanks rockchislerthis is definitely going to be the best shooting mechanic of all basketball games ever.
also, i don't think people realize the other effects that the extra control on the shot stick is going to create. in mlb 10 the show, hitting takes into account your timing AND where you are aiming. this creates alot of variety in the hits because if you aim too high you get a chopper, and if you aim too low you get a pop up. then throw in timing and you get a crazy variety of different hits that are CONTROLLED BY THE USER. In mlb 2k10 however, it is only based on timing so there is less variety in the hit types, and when you do hit a chopper it is completely random because you just mistimed a hit the time before exactly the same way, yet you hit a pop fly the last time. now, in nba elite you are going to be controlling whether you miss left right or long short which is going to create a wide variety of bounces off the rim which is going to be USER CONTROLLED not randomness like nba live/ nba 2k last year. there are even more things that will be created by this but too long of a post.Comment

Re: ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL CHANGE TO THE SHOT STICK
yes not like this. 2k shot stick is much simpler. you have no control over whether you miss short long right or left. you simply do timing and if you mess up the timing the game engine decides what kind of miss there will be.Comment

Re: ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL CHANGE TO THE SHOT STICK
read the gamespot interview
it's much better and more advanced than 2k's system....in 2k it's just a trigger to shoot the ball and based on the timing of how long you hold it "rolls the dice" in determining the shot success based on the attributes of the player.
in Elite, you have control of the trajectory and distance and how far left/right you miss...the margin of error is decided by the player you are shooting with, but the shot itself is a true reflection of how you control the stickComment

Re: ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL CHANGE TO THE SHOT STICK
Isn't the shot release early/ late system going to be in it as well as the balance thingy?Comment
