Re: 7 Minute NBA Elite 11 Video (Gamespot)

reanimator, could you answer these questions for me? thanks

in a post up situation, will the aiming sweet spot and power meter be more forgiving when a center is being gaurded by a shorter person rather than a taller person? because in the nba when gasol takes a hook shot over rondo its almost as if he isn't there. if gasol takes a hook shot over dwight howard that is a different story.

    one more question:
when going up for a layup, if you are contested will the aiming sweet spot be smaller to account for it being a contested layup?

thanks so much for answering my questions

We haven't finished tuning sweet spots for different situations yet (we're still tuning uncontested shots) so I'll be sure to bring these ideas to the table when the work begins.

I agree that these factors should come into play, and I would expect the guy on the team doing that work would feel the same way.

This is what i wanna know, cuz people miss layups all the time. Rondo in the finals missed a TON of layups.

Are you saying this can't happen in your game??

It could happen, but like I said it's not likely.

Perhaps difficulty of layup timing should be influenced by where/when you take off, and how fast you're running at the time.

We want to avoid anything that introduces random error that isn't a result of something the user did. But basing it on the takeoff is something you control as a user so that wouldn't break the rule.

When you mentioned Rondo it's the first thing that popped into my head because he seemed a little out of control on some of the layup misses if I remember correctly.

Anyway, this is certainly an option. I'll keep it in mind when we get to discussion what influences shot difficulty.

          Thanks.

Thanks for answering my question reanimator. How about the timeouts? Is it now possible in Elite 11 to choose what kind of timeout we want to call? Like 20 or full TO coz in Live 10 you can't and it's random.

And is the AI now smarter when it comes to inbounding the ball in halfcourt? What I mean with this is that will they set screens to free the ball receiver or move around to get an open look instead of standing and waiting for the inbounder to throw the ball at them. Coz in Live 10 they just stand and do nothing w/c is very disappointing especially when the shot clock is below 3 secs.

              rEAnimator,

              a few questions...thanks in advance

will adjusting shots in midair actually be relevant in the game this year?

and can we expect to see lebron james/dwight howard like shot blocks? and shots pinned on the backboard?

and have the alley-oops changed? are will we still have slow motion alley oops?

                thanks! .

I also have what i think is a great solution for layups.
There should be a sweet spot AND a power meter for layups. However, when the person is not contested at all, the sweet spot and power meter should be so forgiving that you practically have to never release the stick or flick it up without holding it up at all in order to miss (i think that in all shooting (even jump shots) the pump fake should be reserved for the right stick down motion. That way if you flick the right stick up you will actually shoot a terrible shot instead of pump faking). As the person gets contested on a layup the sweet spot and power meter should become harder depending on the contest. Of course, a mild contest should not make the sweet spot/power meter much harder. When doing user right/left handed layups, wherever the stick ends up pointing should determine if the sweet spot is hit. (you have to move the stick left and then up to do a left handed layup so if you move it to the left but then when you move it up and end up being very diagonal it should be a miss.)

if you watched the nba finals you should remember that rondo's missed layups were all either contested by gasol and other lakers, or he did a two step and missed. The two step makes you jump off of the wrong leg which makes the layup much harder to make than a normal layup. Rondo did not miss any wide open layups. layups after two steps(euro steps) should have a decreased sweet spot and power meter even when they are not contested, simply because it is a harder shot. I think if you add a power meter to layups it will help alot, especially with rim physics since once again like all other shooting the user will control whether the ball misses right, left, long or short. Hell, if you had this system you could throw user alleyoops off of the backboard. I also think that if you reserve the right stick down motion to pump fakes and make right stick flicks up an actual shot, the system will work better because if you flick the stick up it will be a brick instead of a pump fake, so you have to make sure and not flick it up. Also, on dunks if you had a sweet spot and power meter this could dictate whether you do a flush dunk (nothing but net) or hit the ball against the back of the rim and then in.

pretty long read but i think this system or something similar would kick ***. i think adding a layup power meter is essential it just needs to be much more forgiving than the regular shooting power meter. thanks so much!

The main motivation behind revamping the passing system is to make the whole thing more reactive to physics so you can see more tips, deflections, stuff like that.

As a result we've needed to make passing "smarter" since the ball can't just pass through an opponent.

Responsiveness, momentum and pass type selection are all being worked on as a result.
good. one thing that is essential is there needs to be more pass animations and a wider variety of types of passes in order to ensure there is a proper pass for any type of situation.

Also, as I mentioned, it is essential that players can pass while running. This is probably the most important part to making the passing more responsive.

Thats a great idea, also make sure that layups in traffic are more difficult to finish.

Re: 7 Minute NBA Elite 11 Video (Gamespot)

also, another cool thing that could happen as a result of having a sweet spot and a power meter is rim stuffs. How could would that be. forget to release the stick and kobe gets rim stuffed and then falls on his ***. lol I just played a game of 2k and pretended that i had a sweet spot and a power meter for dunks and layups and it feels natural. Having the power meter release point a good amount of time before the player's hands hit the rim actually feels very natural and this would give the game engine plenty of time to factor in the physics of whether it will be a rub in, back of the rim dunk, rim stuff or nothing but net flush dunk.

also of course you need to have pump fake only on right stick down and make any movement of the right stick up a shot/layup/dunk even if you flick the stick up very quickly. if flicking the right stick up causes the player to go for a dunk and miss off of the back of the rim instead of being a pump fake, this would give the user the control over whether they make or miss the dunk/layup while still making it very easy to dunk since all you have to do is hold the right stick up just a little bit.

also, so many times i have tried to shoot in 2k and live and instead my guy pump fakes. it is so annoying so i hope you reserve pump fakes for right stick down movement. i think it will really make things so much better for so many reasons.

also, depending on how far away you take off from should effect the sweet spot and power meter like you mentioned. because if you try and take off from the freethrow line you will more likely get rim stuffed in real life. speed is also something good to keep in mind because if you notice when an nba player has cherry picked and is completely open he usually slows down (a little bit) to make sure he doesn't miss.
