Re: Nba Elite: The Basketball Stuff
*Standard cars do not support vehicle interior camera views.". I just have that feeling that there's a little mental asterisk somewhere that says "*ratings do not support true sim play"
See the following is when Live 10 was really on point, at the beginning. I was playing an idio... uh I mean a person of poor skill and lesser scruples and the ratings didn't kick into overdrive trying to get him back into the game. He played like garbage and got beat like so. Now you pop in Live everything will look the same except for the fact that the score will be reversed. Suffice it to say I'm the guy with the Knicks.

Re: Nba Elite: The Basketball Stuff
I'm very saddened to make this decision because I believe I'll INITIALLY be missing out on some good basketball but I think I'm going to have to give this game a pass this year. I really like everything I've been reading and hearing but sadly it's what I'm NOT hearing that has me coming to this decision. I've posted a question about ratings several times in the various threads that the devs have been answering questions in and have yet to receive a reply.
Every game in existence has a rating system. Is this creature more or less powerful than this trooper? Is this tennis player's serve more powerful than this player's ability to return? Does this car have more horsepower than the next? Ratings is what is going to determine whether this game will be a successful sim or a dunk facial fest. One only needs to look at Live 10 where in the beginning the game played great. (glitches and all aside) The core of basketball was there and was fantastic, then the ratings changed. The momentum, team ratings and individual ratings got so messed up it killed the game play. People started literally walking to loose balls right at their feet while other players 10 feet or more away would run over and pick it up. Rebounds actually hitting players in the chest with them making no attempt to simply put their hands out and get it.
Now I have no problem with the game steering to a more "arcade" element of gameplay through player ratings but online there needs to be a real sim lobby. One that has the ratings marginalized behind the scenes a bit to keep the gameplay tight. For some reason my sixth sense is telling me that this wont be the case so I've decided to save myself the frustration and just to pass on this one.
One would say "wait for the demo" but in actuality that's really irrelevant. The demo is usually between pretty equal teams so any rating discrepancy would not show. I'm very saddened by this as I really started to give Elite the eye recently with what I've seen so far.
But my guess is you already assumed there would be ratings, but are more concerned about how they will impact the game. Is that a fair assumption?
Are there specific ratings you'd like to know more about? I've talking quite ab bit about the shot ratings in other threads. Which ones worry you the most?
I'm sorry if I missed your previous ratings questions. I'm on and off the boards while I'm working and it's very easy for me to miss a few posts, or to read it and not have time to answer when I read, and then not be able to find the post later.
I'm doing my best to answer what I can, and I hope you can understand if I miss a few things here and there.Comment

There will definitely be ratings in the game so if you're worried that there won't be, or that they won't affect gameplay, I can put that fear to rest.

Basically I'm asking if you guys will keep the ratings within a certain range behind the scenes and if you must cater to the "fun" crowd at least have a lobby where the ratings could be marginalized to keep the gameplay tight and realistic. Where you can go off with a great player but you have to work for it still. Run some plays, burn an opponent in one fashion and then switch it up with the hot player in another fashion to score. I'm not asking for the players not to be able to do anything but I'm asking don't have the game help the souped up rated player out when the other guy has him figured out.Comment

Re: Nba Elite: The Basketball Stuff
Will quick release shots and double clutch type shots still be in the game, or does a quick release mean I will leave the shot short every time?
Will I be able to control release points on layups in order to hang in the air, or to shoot a quick floater over a defender?
Will quick release shots around the basket finally be implemented?
Will balance and rhythm be important factors to shooting as they were in Live 10?
Will the tug of war control game be there as it was in Live 10? (the team under control starts playing better while the user who is out of control and forcing things starts to fall apart - and then quits) - note: still, sometimes it seemed a user could play out of control and the game still rewarded you.
Will I be able to play as the worst team in the game and beat the best team in the game because I played smart, fundamental basketball?
Will my A.I. teammates be mindless robots waiting for me to switch to them before they become "alive", or will they act realistically on their own?
Will I be able to play effective team defense by playing off-ball, positional defense? (such as a 2 guard sagging off a non shooter into the paint to protect a dribble drive, or roaming on D with a SF).
Will the game reward good positional defense by causing your teammates to play to the intelligence level that you yourself are playing at, as in Live 10?
Will my teammates react to my activity level and run the lanes, try to beat a slow defender down court for a fast break, etc?
Will they cut in more opportune times and react to my ballhandling in a more realistic way?
Will A.I. teammates get rebounds on their own, or do you have to quickly (or mindlessly) switch to a big man to get a rebound?
Will sheer activity (read: hyperness) result in your team playing well rather than a smart, fundamental approach to the game?
Will the CPU recognize a user who is in control vs. a user who is not?
Will angles be implemented in a realistic way? The north/south camera usually leads to people running to certain key spots (top of the key, right and left wing/right and left corner) and drawing a straight line to the basket, whereas the realistic way to play utilizes every spot on the floor in much more subtle ways.
Will drop passes around the basket be better implemented? Will big men anticipate passes for quick finishes at the rim before the D can recover?
Will help D and recovery times on defense be slower than they were in Live 10?
Will charges be more frequent when you catch users who do the same things over and over again, and you beat them to spots? In Live 10 I could draw them but a lot of times I would just get run over with no call.
Some of these may overlap but they are all fundamental aspects of a simulation style game. Any answers would be appreciated.Last edited by fluent2332; 06-28-2010, 07:55 PM.Comment

Re: Nba Elite: The Basketball Stuff
I want to use my time here as best I can, and I feel answering fresh questions is the way to go.
I'm happy to follow your lead on the best format for this. Just point me to the right placeComment

Re: Nba Elite: The Basketball Stuff
I find these long threads that have general topics tend to get confusing to read as we bounce back and forth between different game areas.
Having each thread stay specific will make it easier for me (and others I imagine) to follow.Comment

I'd also be happy if each topic went in it's own thread. One for passing, one for shooting.

Re: Nba Elite: The Basketball Stuff
We'll be releasing more information as time goes on, but if you have specific questions I'd be happy to answer.
No offense, but I don't really want to just start listing improvements. I'd rather focus on questions or concerns people have. I feel that's a better use of my limited time on the boards.
I have a question and a suggestion.
Question:
Will there be Signature Packages(Jumpshots, Dunks, Dribbling, Celebrations, ect...)? Not just for Superstars but for all players (for instance will we see a virtual Luke Walton, Brian Scalabrine, or Chris "Birdman" Andersen). If there will not be packages for ALL players what percentage of players can we expect to see Signature packages for???
Suggestion:
I would suggest that there be an "option" for dynamic refereeing. Because different refereeing teams call games differently. Some call touch fouls and some just let them "boys" play.
Thank you in advance for your response...
