Re: Ask the devs : Controls (Offense and Defense)

There isn't really a place to post this but since some guy brought up the idea of technical fouls I think I have a cool idea that would be good for next years game. First off in MLB The Show 10 every umpire has his own tendencies so the strike zone can change with every game. I was thinking that different refs in Elite can have their own foul tendencies. Like letting them play, less contact, more three in the key, flagrant heavy, give superstars call, favor home team. Stuff like that every ref can have their own preferences. There can be moments in a game where after a call a player or a coach can contest the call. I think ESPN Baseball did this. There would be a little mini game and if you lost or something you would get ejected but if you did good the refs could become more favorable to their calls. Every player can have their own emotion or composure rating and the higher it is the less likely they will get called for the T. Just a thought though

But for Dynasty it's a core point that adds to the realism, dynamics, urgency and surprise that makes a multiyear dynasty so interesting to play. Apart from the fact that dynasty in Live 10 felt like an imposition to play, missing injuries just made it so much more boring and uninteresting to play it.

(by the way, the terrible dynasty without injuries was the only reason why I picked up 2k10 afterall, since I really enjoyed Live in the beginning)
Yeah, something tells me this is gonna be a major problem, if not addressed.

I assumed it would be in the game.

If they added injuries after the games, would that be good enough? like you get back from the game and go to your franchise menu and you get a report like, "luke walton strained his back during the game and will be out for 2 weeks."

I think that would be good enough right?

            Yeah, my point exactly.

I just don't see how the "new" game is so physics-driven but there is no consequence to the endless amount of physics-driven situations throughout a game.

And for all the onliners and exhibitioners who say it's not a priority, if that's what's important to them and where EA is taking this game, then it's just what consumers will have to decide on as there's nothing realistic about a dynasty mode with no in-game injuries.

It ruins the mode, to be honest. I think the idea I said before could be implemented. I think they should make it something they really push to get into this release or a patch, it will be ugly once people realize it isn't there.

Yeah, I took for granted that injuries would be in this year because I thought no way they push the game this hard without improving franchise mode! Wow, is all I can say at this point! Assuming the rest of the game pans out I'll probably still purchase it, but there is considerably less enthusiasm for it now!

Yeah, I've been sorta hyping this game to my friends. I told this to a few of them, and one laughed at me, another said that's a joke. I wish it was.

i really watn to see the dynasty mode improved. Especially when it comes to interaction with the cpu through trades, or when it comes to the cpu signing people, the nba draft improved, maybe a summer league and or d-league????

You'll have to excuse my ignorance about last year's franchise mode, but I'm curious...

Did things like fatigue carry over between games?

It seems like that would be something that would take higher priority over injuries for me if I was playing that mode. It would give you incentive to rest your star players for bigger games, stuff like that.

Injuries, if they were in the game, would then play off of fatigue. The more fatigued a player was the higher the chance of an injury.

Injuries would still be a somewhat rare occurrence, but then at least you'd have a say in how likely they were to happen by managing the playing time of your players.

Injuries are probably more common than we think look at the Blazers and Warrors last season they had a lot of guys out for long periods of time and then break it down to individual players:

                        Yao
                        TMac
                        Gilbert
                        Oden
                        Redd
                        Bogut
                        Shaq
                        Baron Davis

These guys have had a long run of injuries that have put them out for long periods of the season.

I was just playing live 10 a few minutes ago because i'm really excited about Elite 11. In my dynasty, fatigue doesn't really seem to transfer over game by game, and i play 8 minute quarters, run and gun style.

I'm trying to read in between the lines and am guessing you're saying fatigue will be a huge factor in elite 11, well then that would be a good change for the dynasty mode, at least from a mental stand point. Now we'll be forced to better calculate minutes for more important players.

No, no. Please don't read between the lines. And don't read between these lines either

I really don't know about last year's mode and I don't know any details about this year's mode. And I'm not supposed to talk about game modes.

So really, don't take my question any differently than if I was any other user on the boards in this respect.

I am a gameplay programmer and know the gameplay engine inside and out but the franchise mode is still new to me.

Having said that, there are things yet to be announced about Elite in the game mode areas that I think you will be very happy with.

But how fatigue, injuries or anything else plays into that is completely out of my realm of expertise.
