Re: Ask the devs : AI/Ratings
You and me both.. i would love to sink my teeth into a 1990's rosterI wish we could get an answer on the ability to create more than 50 players or edit over an existing player.....
But i sense the CAP situation will remain the same as always very limited.
It's kinda sad to for me becuase I've been wanting to creating a monster roster file with only Old School players.....that would actually be like a dream come true if they gave us about 300 CAP slots
I probably wouldn't even play a single game with the default rosters ever again......
It would be nothing but Jordan, Bird, Barkley and Magic all night longMy All-time Favourite players is order:
1.Larry Johnson
2.Kevin Garnett
3.Blake Griffin
4.Ben Wallace
5.Shawn KempComment

Re: Ask the devs : AI/Ratings
Very good point. If I drive right with Josh Smith and put up a right handed hook, layup etc, the likelihood of success should be far less, as well as the likelihood of being stripped if I'm dribbling with my right hand.
Very good point TUSS.Comment

Re: Ask the devs : AI/Ratings
From PlayMakers (I copied your post to a text editor so I didn't lose my reply)
Ok here we go dev's......
I had to come home and pop in Live 10 for the 1st time in like 5 or 6 months
I couldn't remember the things that concerned me and eventually stopped me from playing the game all together which might have been the 1st time in like 10 years where I didn't finish a season in Live.
But anyways here we go......
This is a very important question and it has bothered me for the past 3-4 years...
1). Why can't we have more than 50 created player slots and why can't we edit the players already in the game to change them into someone else?
I think most guys here know where i'm going with this....I would like to take those NON-NBA teams that are released with the game and have the ability to turn those players in to NBA players if i can't edit over the existing NBA players.
- I hear you on this one, but unfortunately I asked our front end programmer and he said the 50 cap is still around for another year.
2). In regards to ratings/player tendencies and how they translate to sliders.
Why on earth do we not get numbers anymore instead we get clicks to determine slider settings?
I could in years past develope sliders that took into account the avg rating of a group of players and then apply that to the slider settings and have the game play pretty good and know exactly where the slider was setup at overall.
Now i don't even bother with sliders in NBA Live/Elite because honestly i don't know what the heck the actual slider value is anymore without numbers to see. I mean last year i heard things like the sliders skip about 2 clicks for every 1 value......IN other words if i wanted to play with CPU offensive rebound at 75 the sliders could have very well been 77 or 79 for all know because of the skipping
- Just checked the front end - hasn't changed. I did however run it by the FE producer and he is looking into it, so if it makes it in, it's because you just asked for it
3). Why not include sliders that allows us to adjust player attributes up or down without having to actually change the player ratings ourselves via a GLOBAL edit for like jumping or Player agility?
It seem like every year the agility ratings are so high they mess up the movement of the players on the floor. That goes for verticals aswell....why not use a scale of 0-50 as opposed to 0-99...
I would think a rating of 42 would mean 42 inch vertical....but we get guys with a 80 or 90 vertical......in my years of testing this rating the lower the rating the better the players look on the floor. No big men jumping with their heads over the rim and it also reduces a players ability to take off and dunk or shoot a layup from anywhere on the floor at times.
That stuff just leads to ROCKET DUNKING or JET PACKING what ever you want to call it right out the box every year until you edit those ratings down.
- A global slider is a good idea, it would help us testing gameplay as well...I'll ask but I'm guessing it's not something that will go through this year.
4). You guys have never had a rating for Offensive or Defensive awareness. I know what the other ratings are for but it seems like every year none of those ratings can off set not having a actual player awareness rating.
Heck it could even be called a player IQ rating.....you see on the floor i hate when the CPU controlled Kobe acts no different from per say a scrub like Moe Ager in game management situations. Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and John Stockton weren't only talented players but they were amongst the smartest players in NBA history.
I've always wondered why Live unlike NHL 10, NCAA Football or Madden doesn't have a actual player awareness rating or slider for that matter. I mean in NCAA football I can create a guy for example Peyton Manning and the dude will react smarter on the field because I was able to give him a high awareness rating than most other QB's
There are so many times when I played this game over the years that I ask myself why is this guy taking such a DUM shot 4-5 seconds into the shot clock.....or why is this guy totally ignoring an open man even if i run my defender off the court.
I mean seriously J.Kidd ain't going to miss a wide open Marion inside who's been standing there waving his hands for like 5 seconds in the paint by himself.
- To be honest, there's not much point in something like an overall IQ rating. If the CPU isn't making a pass to the open player, then that is a flaw in the cpu pass opportunity logic. There is definitely code to differentiate players in all aspects of the AI. Again with the passing example, players who are rated highly as passers will consider a more narrow passing lane clear than a less skilled passer. What we call the ball carrier logic (the code that recognizes opportunities) has gotten a lot of love this year; believe me - if it frustrates you when the cpu misses an opportunity or does soemthing like takes a bad shot, as the person who wrote it it kills me.
5). Playbooks, Playbooks and Playbooks.....again this goes back to the CPU AI. Yes the fancy plays are installed. But the CPU ain't running those plays 9 out of 10 times.
Why can't they call plays other than basic catch and shoot or post up?
I know a few years ago i could modify their playbooks and get them to somewhat run plays.....but now it seems DNA or something is making guys shoot after 1-2 passes....You see most guys are in love with the COURT SPACING in Live 10 or 9
But in reality that court spacing has always been in Live even during the garbage years of 06, 07 and 08. So you see that has never been a problem in Live. The problem has always been getting the CPU AI to actually look like they were running a set play other than catch and shoot
The guys who went away from Live until 09 and 10 will marvle at the court spacing....but for me it's all the same things i've seen before. I want to see Dirk run ISO at the high elbow or RUN Pick N Pop with Jet Terry in the Dallas assigned playbook but I hardly ever see those little things that make me feel like the CPU is thinking on the floor and running plays or looking to take advantage of matchups.
- I'm glad you brought this up as it's another thing we're working on this year. Team tempo controls the style of play of each team, so for up tempo teams you'll see more of the spot up & quick on ball screen plays you mentioned (with a lower percentage of set plays), but teams like San Antonio should definitely be executing on their sets. Going back to the ball carrier logic, plays break when the logic sees an opportunity. For example, if a play is supposed to finish with Ray Allen coming off of a screen, but Rondo's defender strays too far to the left or right, Rondo will drive on him given he tends to finish at the hoop. When he drives the play breaks down.
The cpu completing plays is there for dependent on two things - the user playing good positional defense, and the cpu not thinking it has an opportunity when it actually doesn't. As mentioned above I've put a bunch of work in ensuring that the opportunities are properly identified.
And last but not least......why on earth can i make moves with Wade or LeBron but the CPU never utilizes those same moves themselves. I mean if a CPU player has 90 Triple Threat Effectiveness or Penetration Effectiveness why on earth doesn't he ever break my DAMN ankles?
I see guys every year showing highlights of what they did to the CPU off the dribble......but the CPU seems like he's playing at a local YMCA gym vs me. Every thing is generic most of the game. In fact they can't even operate a simple Alley Oop properly.....they throw the ball up for grabs and some guy always ends up shooting a damn hellicopter layup instead of dunking the damn ball.
- I remember you speaking on this after Live 10 was released. Lets just say this is 'being addressed' this year
...more to come on this subject.
YOU CAN PROBABLY SENSE MY FRUTRATIONS RIGHT ABOUT NOW....LOL!
I could go on and on.......but hopefully you guys (Dev's) understand where I'm coming from when i say it's time we get a game that looks like basketball on the floor for once. I still see things that were b.s. back in Live 06 showing it's ugly head in Live 10 after playing a little bit of it tonight just so that I could come up with my frustartion questions for you.
- This was a great list of issues...keep 'em coming.
PLEASE BRING THIS GAME BACK TO WHERE IT USED TO BE.....I ACTUALLY HAD TO PLAY ON THE OTHER TEAMS COURT THIS YEAR BECAUSE I KINDA GAVE UP ON MY FAVORITE BASKETBALL FRANCHISE.Comment

On 0:16-0:19 Lebron does euro step and cant move because Durant was in the way, can you guys fixed that because what should've happened is that Lebron knocks durant down and then finish the move.Comment

Re: Ask the devs : AI/Ratings
Its true Lebron is strong, but give Durant some credit he is a inch taller then Lebron and i'm pretty sure he isn't light. Now if this were Jennings vs. Lebron I could understand but come on Durant is almost or just as strong.<EMBED height=385 type=application/x-shockwave-flash width=640 src=http://www.youtube.com/v/1aYBgIEYZxU&hl=en_US&fs=1 allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always"></EMBED>

Re: Ask the devs : AI/Ratings
Yea but, the still shouldnt be doing a euro step in one place and I understand what you're saying but Lebron is very strong and durant is tall but he's 20 pounds skinner than bron and bron is somewhat more agressive but they're both good, I just wish that mishappening to be removed.Comment

Re: Ask the devs : AI/Ratings
stepsix - Question, is there logic written regarding the CPU acknowledging when a successful play(meaning they scored) occurs? And do they try to repeat the successful plays until they don't score?
This would bring a CPU dynamic that feels more human. It also forces the user to adjust or else the play will keep happening until they can't score with it anymore.
I know human players always run their favorite plays over and over. Aside from the CPU Adjusting to the plays by double teaming, can the CPU assign different match ups or change their man to man to zone if I'm making more inside shots than outside shots?Comment

Re: Ask the devs : AI/Ratings
i agree that looks kinda wrong. a collision and a foul (on either player, depending on obvious circumstances) would look a lot more realistic. I wonder if that can be done without having a canned animation.Comment

Check Connor's notebook! I mentioned it to him and he said it would be implemented!Just checked the front end - hasn't changed. I did however run it by the FE producer and he is looking into it, so if it makes it in, it's because you just asked for it

Re: Ask the devs : AI/Ratings
Thanks stepsix for your work. Having the AI utilize their skills is something that is missing from almost all sports games. Pro Evolution Soccer is probably the best at capturing this. When you play against the stars, they will perform their stepovers, feints, move into proper position on their own, etc. using their skill when they are playing vs. you the user.
As I am sure you know, without this a game can become a bit stale when playing single player as alot of us in this thread still love to do. Don't forget about us dynasty guys!
Loving what you guys are doing so far. Hope you can pull it off and implement the suggestions in this thread to make everyone feel unique.

Re: Ask the devs : AI/Ratings
Give Durant even more credit since he was in position DIRECTLY in Lebron's path. Lebron had NO angle, NO space, nothing, so that should have been nothing but a charge with both these guys hitting the deck or a foul on Durant. See thats the problem with games today, the devs trying to cater to people who want superstars to perform above the laws of physics. The LAST thing that should have happened was Lebron going through Durant and actually finishing the move. Not when Durant had the absolute best position he could have.Comment
