Re: I HAVE 1 QUESTION???
There's not enough time in one development cycle for them to improve drastically in all areas. So they have to make a choice: either focus in on one area and make that their strength, or spend equal time and effort on all areas but do a half-assed job. They chose to focus on gameplay mechanics, and as a result they will be lacking in some areas (signature styles). But that stuff will become their new main focus for next year. In a couple of years, if everything goes according to plan, they'll be able to offer a well rounded product that rivals NBA 2K. That's a big "if", but that seems to be their plan. All things considered, that's probably the smartest route. They'll lack in sales for a couple years but it'll be well worth it in the long run.Comment

Re: I HAVE 1 QUESTION???
stop complainin like a f@##t (not op), all signature moves you can really think of are in the game, except maybe kobe's reverse pivot -Rondos. all sigs from Live 10 I heard is in Elite and live 10 was a signiture based game.
You have control over one footed shots and everything. watch some old vids.Comment

Re: I HAVE 1 QUESTION???
LMAO, DJ Mbenga?!?! Of course not, all I am saying is that for the game to be competive in my eyes at least, it has to feel like the NBA...I can't see that happening without their being any signature style to it. For instance, let's say we have the run and gun of the Suns, but Nash doesn't have signature passing ability nor his 1 leged off balance jumpers!! I mean that wouldn't feel like the NBA that I know and love!! With that being said however, if they have the big names down and have the teams authenic play style down, then I'll be happy, if not.....76ers and Eagles

Re: I HAVE 1 QUESTION???
As I sit here recovering from a day long bball ball tournament I just played in yesterday, im perfectly content with the "real time physics" I encountered loon the actual court....im still hurting...lol
Not to say I dont like realism in my bball game and dont welcome the inclusion of physics though....but when I when I play an NBA basketball video game I want to see the signature styles\ play etc of NBA players\ teams. Other than that, its just a bunch of players in different color jerseys...
The fear of having a generic game is a legitimate concern....whether they had time to implement it or not..Comment

Re: I HAVE 1 QUESTION???
I understand where you guys is coming from but I would rather have Real Time Physics before sig animations. EA is trying to give us nextgen b-ball period and we will not fully understand it till we try it and I honestly think once people play it they will over look the fact that its lacking sig anims. In Elite 11 90% of the gameplay anims use the physics engine and with that being said a sig anim look can change during contact so we might not see the full sig anim play out as often. As long as these anims act and react different everytime the game will never get stale and when they add sig anims its just icing on the cake.
Use these nextgen systems for what they are capable of not what lastgen can do.
Games on next-generation platforms (PS3, Xbox 360 and PC) are superior to their previous generation
counterparts in terms of graphics, online play and scope. However, while advances
such as HD, HDR lighting, motion blur or integrated online communities are often described as
‘next-gen’, in reality they are an evolution of trends started in the early nineties.
Many consumers are realising this and are asking for truly next-generation experiences to justify
the cash outlay for hardware and software.
It is argued here that next-generation games will indeed be different. This is because, for the first
time, a generation of hardware is able to produce unique game moments. Unique game
moments are experiences in a game that are not pre-produced, scripted or necessarily even
planned. They are moments that make every game a unique experience for the player. They are
moments that the player will tell their buddies about and will want to save for everyone to share
or admire. They are moments that are produced by the hardware’s CPUs, synthesizing little gems
of ‘real life’ in every game.
I just hate it took so long but at lease EA is trying.
LOL you have no clue, do you. there real time physics isn't what you think it is.Comment

Re: I HAVE 1 QUESTION???
This is the same engine thats used in Elite 11 just like Euphoria
Hockey is a violent sport filled with bone-rattling hits along the boards and wince-inducing open-ice checks, but over the past few years the checking in NHL has become too predictable. With the new real-time physics engine, however, every hit will look and feel different. Developed internally with the help of the Fight Night team, the new engine gives realistic physical properties to the sticks, pucks, and players, bringing the game closer to what we see every night on the ice. Like Natural Motion’s Euphoria technology, this procedural system generates animations on the fly, getting rid of the repetitive canned animations that plague so many sports games. Whether you’re on open ice or along the boards, every collision looks unique – players can catch the buckles along the benches, get their skates tied up, or even keep their balance if the checker only gets a small piece of him. Players rebound viciously from the glass after getting checked into the boards, and if you hit your victim hard enough he may drop his stick or suffer a gruesome injury.
Real Time Physics and Natural Motion Euphoria is the next best thing to real life.

2K may have tons more player-specific animations, but you can hardly call half of them signature animations. Yes they do a great job of replicating signature lay-ups, dunks and free-throw routines. However, all dribbling moves are generic. Players have different assigned moves, but they are all generic. Derrick Rose dribbles differently from Steve Nash, but neither dribbles like their real life counterpart. And the majority of players' jumpshots look nothing like real life. Paul Pierce, Vince Carter, and Terrence Williams all have duplicates of Andre Iguodala's shot. Compare their real shots to each other and it's night and day. Additionally 75% of the jumpshots in 2K10 were set shots. This isn't the 1960s.
2K may be setting the bar for signature animations, but the majority of their signature animations are generic or poorly replicated. They just have a larger library.Comment

Re: I HAVE 1 QUESTION???
They've already stated that Elite will have all the signature animations that were in Live 10 plus some additions. It just wasn't a focus this year because they had bigger fish to fry.

Even so, they give options to edit....which is why there is a thread with over 300 replies of people changing those types things to their liking...you cant argue w\ options....so yes that large library adds a large amount of signature style to the game...
With that being said, this isnt a 2k vs Live debate....What 2k has in their game has no effect on anything when I put Live in the XBOX, thats why I didnt mention it in my initial post. Your right though, this isnt the 1960's, the game has evolved....so I would like to see more than generic layups, post moves etc..that look like they were from that time as well..lol...Last edited by The 24th Letter; 08-16-2010, 01:44 AM.Comment

Re: I HAVE 1 QUESTION???
I kinda have the feeling that Elite will almost be a beta of sorts where they are trying a lot of new things that they simply can't get right in the limited development cycle. I think it'll be improved but with very rough edges and they are working towards putting in place a solid foundation that they can build off going forward. I think this game will have moments of brilliance combined with just as many WTF moments and bugs.
I think they are building towards next year and polish will come with time but right now they are trying to focus on fixing the core gameplay and implementing a system that could eventually translate into the best basketball games we have ever seen.
I'll gladly admit it if i'm wrong and will be along for the ride (i've already pre-ordered both bball games) but it think this will be fun to play and quite different but severely laking in the polish and signature style of the opposition.Comment
