Is it me or when the players move do their feet have a slight skating effect?

I don't know why they moved away from this
I thought they were adding to Live 10!?
Imo, the only thing that looks better is the crowd... WTF? I ain't selling Live 10 anytime soon.Comment

Re: NBA Elite 11 OS Exclusive Video: Milwaukee Bucks @ New York Knicks
All animations look like they are too quick or something... Not natural enough movments or something.
Some princeples of bball are there, but it looks like old school games, good ideas and gameplay that look terrrible now.
Copying the real sport looks like a better direction, than re-inventing arteficial in case of bball games so far. But maybe they can do a compromise and we get total control plus proper animations and graphics. Someday. Maybe.Comment

You know what else i is crazy. Jordan is making money off both games with the jordan challenge, and the legendary mode also features the jordan brand lolComment

I liked the look of Live 10, and while i thought they could be less glossy, it seems like they went the complete opposite way and made them too dull. You never know with these games until they're running on your setup, but HD videos give a fairly decent idea.
I'm too lazy to quote, but fatleg & 2kfanatic posted that in Live, lesser known players got the shaft in the facial likenesses but I disagree. I know Kwame Brown, for example, has a pretty good likeness in Live while 2K has had him done poorly ever since 2k2, and still equips him with a sleeve that he only wore for a short stretch in 2004 as Wizard. I honestly thought Live 10 did a better job one the little guys.Comment

From my view it seem that you think you know it all. But we need to get this back on topic. It's no use arguing with you.Comment

Re: NBA Elite 11 OS Exclusive Video: Milwaukee Bucks @ New York Knicks
Couple positives after watching again.
from 5:01 - 5:08 in the video that was some great user defense, now if the defender made a difference in the shot going in even tho he didn't jump that's even better. Also like someone else said the bodying up I really like on defense, looks like angles might b important in this title.Comment

I know some people said that their wasnt a lot of drives to the basekt but I think that has a lot to do with the way you play. Some people that can master the shooting and get very good at it might choose to pull up and shoot like they were doing in the video instead of driving to the basket with the chance of making contact with someone and missing the layup. To me it depends on the person you are controllingLast edited by fatleg3; 09-02-2010, 04:16 AM.Comment

Re: NBA Elite 11 OS Exclusive Video: Milwaukee Bucks @ New York Knicks
+'s
- ESPN presentation is good
- Good pace of the game
- Refreshing to hear new commentary
- Good play calling
- Generally the right action is happening (just not animating so nicely)
- I can see how this camera angle could be good for gameplay
- Jennings jump shot fake to layup was a nice animation sequence
- ball deflections
- dribbling looks like it would be good to control
-'s
- players are too skinny
- same game intro as last year
- awkward passing animations
- Maggette's dunk animation
- Players jumping too high
- Jennings did a weird jump stop (jump over/ through a player kind of)
- awkward in air contact animations (Amare's post up hook shot)
- when players are fighting for post position (without the ball) their arms are just constantly going through each other
- players near the ring shooting jump shots (Gallinari) should probably be hooks/floaters/ tear drops etc
- no fouls called.... at all?
- despite new commentators, underwhelming commentary
- player awareness? (Bogut cutting to the hoop calling for the ball but looking away from the ball handler)
- lots of over the back (awkward looking) rebounds
Overall:
Similar feedback to Live 10 in that the gameplay result is generally good, but the animation feedback for it is bad. I still think this is going to be fun to play despite all the negatives, but it's very obvious for EA where they are falling short and what to work on for E11Comment

Re: NBA Elite 11 OS Exclusive Video: Milwaukee Bucks @ New York Knicks
I thought the commentary was done fairly well. There are were lengthy pauses that could have used some JVG personality, especially early in a game, but at the same time silent breaks aren't a bad thing. It may not technically be done better, but it's all new which easily allows it to trump Live 10s. The video didn't show any replays (like we saw in 23's videos) or overlays or anything else that goes into presentation, so you can't put that down without seeing what's there. That said, the pregame looks pretty horrible. I hope they don't have the same ritual cutscenes but I know they will.
Still don't like that there are travels and missed dribbles when doing something with the wrong hand, both because its ugly visually and isn't treated as a problem. Either make it a violation or clean it up (hint: the latter would be much better.)
The BJenning's hopstep is a problem not because he went past his man but because of the complete disregard for his momentum and body position that allowed him it. My litmus test for many things in basketball games boils down to "Could someone do actually do this?" and that is a humanly impossible hopstep and a travel due to the missed dribble. I understand that its done for responsiveness but I feel that is a spot where you draw the line. Consistently placing responsiveness over realism may result in more fun but also less realism. The typical OS member loves responsiveness, provided that it respects realism.Last edited by Tha_Kid; 09-02-2010, 04:22 AM.Comment

Re: NBA Elite 11 OS Exclusive Video: Milwaukee Bucks @ New York Knicks
^^ I read a couple pages before watching the video and I don't get this sentiment. Breen sounds just like Breen, maybe a toned down version of what he gives you at a real game. Same with Van Gundy. I thought Jackson was best at infusing his personality into his lines.
Couple more things I noticed:
Pros
+ Switching hands on the RS. It looks fairly important, not just for ball security or driving, but passing as well. Notice the users making sure to switch the ball to the hand closest to their intended recipient when running plays.
+ The physics at work when posting up, post game in general.
+ Rotation AI
+ post game in general (Gallinari using Maggette down there, I look forward to abusing mismatches in the paint in this game)
+ Freedom to choose a right handed layup lets Jennings evade the help after the pumpfake.
+ A legitimate crossover beating a defender, something I don't feel has ever been done well in a game
+ Very good entry pass animation and jumper from Gallinari (2:34) following good defense with the switch on the PnR forcing the mismatch with Redd on Gallo.
+ Live Ball = Deflections
+ Being able to choose to contest a shot with right or left hand. At 2:12, Maggette gives Gallo a pumpfake and the user contests with his left hand, which allows him to still cutoff baseline and force Maggette to give up the ball. CPU teammate Amare in position to help in the even Maggette had beaten him baseline is also a +.
+Play that starts at 4:06, Jennings passes the ball, sets a screen for Redd, then goes down low and screens Gallinari to free Maggette. This time Gallinari challenges with his right, Maggette takes the open lane and abuses the rim. Not a fan of the dunk type in that situation, but it isn't ridiculous and the animation looks nice.
Cons:
- Obviously the lack of fouls
- Salmon's bs Jumper animation
- Questionable rebounding animations
- A "generic" quality to the ballhandling, from watching Danilo & Amare handle the ball. Maybe the difference is in responsiveness and success rate, but the quickness seems to be there regardless. The demo will shine light on this.
- Little variation on rim interaction for made shots, all swish, no rim ins or outs or backrims or frontrims, etc.
- Salmons gaining air due to a collision. The desired result is there, but it's ugly. Like the no-call on that animation though.
- I like that physics lets you get physical with the ballhandler and acknowledges your presence (big improvement on 10) but you have to account for that. 3:40 is a foul and should be called as such.
- At 4:30, i'm assuming Amare wanted to hit Walker under the basket for an above the rim finish. That it went in Gallinari's direction makes me wonder about the accuracy of RT passing for quick hits.
? - Walker comes close to going out at 2:30. I think the line is out, and if so I hope the game calls you for going out like that. If it's lenient due to sliding, tighten up the sliding.
? - Looks like heavy thumbs on the sticks @ 3:47 causes Bogut to break his own ankles. Don't think I like.
? - Like the user responsiveness to try and deflect the pass at 4:06. Also like the no-look animation, but not in that context lol.
Next year, as far as total control goes, I'd like to see Elite give you some as far as dunks go. I have no suggestions for implementation, but the basketball logic that permeates the game with these controls is kind of tossed to wolves when dunking. The choice is purely yes/no. Of course, they need to add a bunch of different kinds of dunks as well.
I'm looking forward to tomorrow's video, hopefully earlier. Interested to see the LT defense slide in action on the perimeter and post, as well as the take charge button. I'm also interested to see how block/charge logic was tuned and how physics works there.Last edited by Tha_Kid; 09-02-2010, 06:10 AM.Comment

Re: NBA Elite 11 OS Exclusive Video: Milwaukee Bucks @ New York Knicks
Another small little feature EA got right this year is head tracking. Every player has an eye on the ball especially from a standstill so they look a little more engaged now on defense.
Also check out the new off ball animations for defenders in the paint (start at 2:38 or 4:00). Guys putting there hands up to prevent passes from getting. Or Stoudamire turning his body aware that Jennings just hop stepped pass his man.
These little contextual animations were nowhere to be found in Live 10. Also on that same possesion just look at the way the players rotate and help. Looked great to me even though the animations weren't perfect I liked how aware they were on D.
Even the guys on the perimeter are moving better (last possesion 4:55). Watch Bogut as he approaches to defend the pick and roll. Last year he wouldn't have been running straight up the whole way. Now he's got hands in position to try and deflect a pass into the post (even if he was facing the wrong way lol!)
Or Salmons on the same play staying with Walker on defense, he kept his head on a swivel making sure he sees ball and man. While at the same time keeping his body in a position to make a play if a pass went his way.
Its also nice to see that animation is not apart of a two player package its all contextual same with the post guys.
Last year they looked and acted so helpless on defense. I'm sure these things aren't much to guys who didn't play Live last year but I'm lovin it.Comment
