Re: NBA Elite 11 Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (PS3, 360)

After giving this game more time last night; I have come to the conclusion that to me this game is a buzz kill.

    Literally.

I had a buzz popped this in and was just like ugh. This is digital buzz killington.

People have complained of the other games dribble controls tied to the left stick being worse. But i feel in this game where the controls are seperate; it just doesn't make sense.

I'm moving one way and i crossover, but the crossover doesn't take me anywhere because i still have to move the left stick.

Also How do you pass out of a shot?? I've tried this a few times and have been unsuccessful(i tried hitting the pass button, it didn't work).

I can pretty much get a steal anytime i want with Rondo(or whoever really).

This game had great potential. I learned the new controls pretty quickly and grew pretty fond of them, but if I had to make two recommendations, they would have to be smoothness/animations and graphics.
      -Graphics- pretty self-explanatory.
      -Smoothness/animations- Some examples are:
Someone jogs down the court, gets an open lane, takes no more steps and explodes for a dunk twice as fast as he was going.
People somewhat slide across the floor so sometimes steps are missed.
      Etc.
Overall, this demo shows a lot of promise, but the game will only be on the same level as NBA 2K11, is when they fix what I said.

It's one thing to ignore animations, it's another to ignore AI. I mean, you really have to nail one or the other for it to be anything close to a quality game of basketball.
        Hmmmm

Didin't see any of that happening once i switched from Pro. I used both teams Fisher and Rondo never did this on Super Star.

I felt Fisher was too aggressive on Super Star but that happens on any level with the PG's IMO.

I won't say they play smarter on Super Star because i don't think the CPU even gets an awareness boost. But they seem to be more active on offense like trying to attack you much better.

Kobe Bryant went 4 straight possessions taking a shot after the Lakers got the ball in his hands.

Yup. CPU PG aggression has been a issue for nearly a decade.

This game is MAJOR for me. i see alot of hate towards the game but in truth, some of it seems to be the same complaints from before the demo was released.

The developers told us from the start what they were trying to do so they should be judged upon that. and based on the level of control and the ability to see the difference in the skill of different people.

Also the way the ball interacts is better than any other b-ball game ever imo. its not scripted at all and can be beautiful at times.

the difference between an elite player and a normal guy is also visible. with kobe i was lightning quick and able to get in the lane and reak havoc. where as with my created baller in the showcase i was sluggish. thats nice. gonna be fun to get on the online league and exploit lower level players.

The shooting is by far the best yet. I hit two game winners. 1st over John Wall with my player and the next over paul peirce with kobe. and let me say this. "I made them shots not the cpu or other factors.

I strongly believe that when everybody gets good. elite will be respected more amoung the sim ballers.

              I'm confused here

How does making yourself better at the game improve the AI?

The AI doesn't play SIM ball doesn't even look like SIM ball what are you saying?

Head to head might be possible but then you have to find SIM players right...

Offline this game is no where near a SIM and even if the USER learns all the controls how does that effect the AI on the court playing SIM

The USER isn't all of sudden going to make Rondo look like a real creative PG on the floor just because the USER got better with the stick skills

Even user vs. user is a lost cause, IMO. You still have 8 AI controlled players out there sliding, rocket jumping for blocks and rebounds, and just all around not acting like NBA players.

                    Blah.

Because of the nature of the shot stick, you can't let go of the right stick when you hit the pass button.

WOW....this game is not as good as i expected it to be...just looking at the first videos EA put out about Elite and i get very mad cause i feel like i've been cheated out of a demo...thank god its only the demo.

The no turbo thing is a no-no....players run normal then players speed up and run faster....and i'm not bashing just stating my feelings.

ALL praises due to the new ELITE franchise. Any real person with a open mind can clearly see that EA ELITE was made for a completely different basketball audience experince. My little cousins love this game demo to death and its great spending time with my little cousins again, i havent seen them in so long.....lets be real here, elite was made to be for FUN and dear i say a semi ARCADISH stlye fashion of basketball....its a family game...i hope to god we can do a windmill dunk with shaq, just like the old times.....lol.....keep up the good work EA. Other people cant see the direction your going with this game, but I DO!....cant waitttt for elite 12

Rebounding and blocking shots.??who is the guy that was in charge of those animations?!?! It just looks so awkward fellas. I honestly don't know how else to put it. It's all over the place.

The AI. Major issues here. Dudes will go up for a lay-up and hit the bottom of the rim, and it happens a lot. As well as shooting the ball baseline and hitting the side of the backboard. I get the whole thing with making shooting skill based, that's great and all, but this is ridiculous.

Animations, need a lot of work as well. I mean, did ya all take ALL of the signature shots out or what? I even witnessed Rondo shooting free throws, and his dribbling prior to taking the shot just doesn't mimic him at all. Kobe's fade. 2k got that down pat. Elite...not even close!

Graphics. Player models look ok, nothing spectacular. Why you all set the default camera overhead I have no idea. The game looks and plays much better from the broadcast view. Collision detection is just plain bad. Layups going through backboards, the ball sailing through people. guys? Really?

Way too many steals, and I don't mean from bad passes. I mean just straight up dude's gankin' the ball from kobe like candy from a baby.

All this talk about your high-speed ANT animations system, and I can honestly say, it's a step back from live 10. Still get the feeling that guy's are skating around at times, which I think is ya all's biggest problem since day ONE. Gotta fix that guys.

There was some good stuff, but what does it matter. All that is over-shadowed by the mere fact that is just plain and simple a step back from last year. I totally appreciate the willingness to go balls out and start from scratch, unlike other developers. Just don't make it baby steps to next year's installment. Take a huge leap, cause to be honest, this needs a lot of TLC.

Re: NBA Elite 11 Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (PS3, 360)

First off, Aplauso for releasing a demo with a lot of content, which includes practice, become legendary, an extensive control list, and 5-on-5 gameplay. I really appreciate a demo like this, and it was one of the reasons why I was looking forward to trying this game out. Aforementioned, a player like me has always liked a game with deep controls, and a game with a learning curve of some sorts, and Elite definitely has both of them; unfortunately, I don't think I'll be playing too much of the game to really grasp all of the 'things' that are going on.

I'll start off by saying that I was a bit surprised by the commentary. I was going into the demo expecting more of the same in this area, but Breen, Jackson, and JVG is undeniably an upgrade over Marv, & Kerr, and they add a certain freshness to this game that has been missing for years. The commentary isn't the best that I've heard in a video game, but with my expectations being so low in this regard, I enjoyed the way they called the action on the court. Speaking of action on the court, this is where things fall apart at the seams for me.

The game is organized confusion. The organized part being the uniforms, and the venue, and confusion with almost everything else. If they were to change the backdrop/setting along with the unis, this game could pass for any unauthenticated/unofficial brand of basketball. The pace of the game is too frenetic with every player moving and sliding around with little regard for proper positioning and footplanting. I'm really curious as to how stamina will affect this game because everyone is seemingly going full throttle out there on the court due to no turbo button. Boston, a team that is known for methodically using the clock and calling sets, and only fast breaking IRL when the opportunity presents itself, were getting shots up against me at a rapid pace, very seldom letting the shot clock get to single digits. To be honest, during the games that I played, I can't even remember them running plays against me. Everything just seemed to divulge into a game of 1-on-1 basketball between me and a C's player. Due to the game speed, it's not unimaginable that majority of the games will turn into a high scoring track meet, and I also heard that there is no speed slider this year (kind of funny after people in this forum were trying to tell me less sliders= a good thing)? Again, complete confusion going on within the fast-pace action.

As far as the controls, I'm just not as hyped as others are in regards to this aspect. One things for sure is that the controls did operate better for me on the up and down view. I tried my usual broadcast cam, and I couldn't pull off any dribble moves with any consistency. Back to the controls, they just gave me a weird vibe. I had really no qualms in terms of pulling, and chaining moves together, but as I watched some of the moves that I was doing, I really questioned would I see a lot of this in real life, let alone in seeing some of this stuff in the NBA. I was able to spin in opposite directions while staying virtually in the same place, followed that up with a wide crossover that looked like a carry, then euro-stepped and layed it in. Throughout that entire scenario, I didn't feel any momentum pulling me in one direction or another whatsoever. The player feel completely weightless to me, but I guess that's another sacrifice with giving players "complete control." Speaking of control, I found it hilarious that I wasn't able to break down Ray Allen with Kobe, no matter what dribble moves I did, Ray just stood there like a brick wall with no reaction, but then while trying to post up Garnett with Gasol, I by mistake pull off a cross over move with Gasol, and Garnett went flying as he got his ankles broke. Simply surreal.

My post is beginning to become too long, but I just want to briefly touch on the "real time physics." I'm sorry, but it didn't do anything to cover up or justify the myriad of flaws in this game. In fact, at this stage the "RTP" adds to the archaic feel to this game with the over-exaggerated impacts, and collisions at the rim. I had KG take off almost at the freethrow line on me, and Bynum just ducked and covered his ears as he braced for the impact? Looks downright silly.

Again, I appreciate the demo including so much. I really do, but after hearing things like "we're competing with other titles outside the genre" & "this game is better than the best" it falls astronomically short to both of those pitches IMO, and it falls in line as one of the biggest disappointments I've had in a sports video game ever with the likes of Madden 06 (next-gen). I've always maintain that video game basketball is a two way street for me; it should have a semblance of "feel", and "look" to real life, but the game doesn't "feel" real to me for reasons I explained, and it doesn't "look" real to me either for reasons that have been extensively talked about already.

I will say this though, when it comes time to promote 12, the people behind this game will have A LOT I mean A LOT to tear down from this iteration of the game...

I want to breakaway from my defender when i'm using someone like Rondo on a fast break, fast breaks are hard to come by, but maybe it's just me.
