Chris i commend you. great blog/article. Too the point and something i really hope is seen.
You touched on alot of things and it is clear now that the sadness that is elite is real.
you've also restored my faith in OperationSports because I thought this would never be brought up.

never heard a ea dev say this is gonna be the best gamr ever. my question for chris is why is 2k even making a game after this year. if its so good bet me 2k will never release a patch for there game also they will not need to make a 2k12,13,14,15,16,17,18 because it REAL basketball n 2k11 is perfect. i wish ea would give chris his wish (cause it matters to the stock holders) n not make a game for 3yrs until he ok's it's ready. stop chasing tornados n go work for ea n show them how it's suppose to be done. i'll bet anyone chris will not say anything about how bad 2k servers have been since next-gen came out. if 2k sells 5 mil. copies n elite sells 2mil. copies does that mean ea should stop giving us a choice? and if you want a REAL nba game tryout for the thunder. all this complaining reminds me of someone. adam's rib maybe? just keep wishing my friend and soon 2k will be the only game to buy. sounds alot like madden.

Even if EA doesn't make another hoops title, it will have no impact on the quality of NBA 2k... THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN COMPETITORS.

The demographics don't even understand one another... hence the vitriol.

2K isn't hyper-realistic because of ANY pressure from EA sports
EA isn't actively trying to recreate Double Dribble because of ANY pressue from 2K.
Their respective targets are COMPLETELY different.

Those with no affinity for authenticity and get pleasure from casually breaking ankles and fantasy dunking have a game to play.

Those who, above all, want to recreate the NBA experience also have a game to play.

2K isn't taking customers away from NBA Live... NBA Jams is (because it's the same game as NBA Elite... just 2 on 2)... and that's fine with EA because the money stays home.
rEAnimator said it himself, "the goal is 70% ARCADE / 30% SIM"... and the 30% is just the NBA license so gamers can have familiarity with the teams/rosters.
So if we would all just LISTEN (including me), we would understand that EA has never had any intention of competing in the SIM market... they have their niche.

Who ever fired Mike Wang is to blame simple and plain

You people need to understand that Mike Wang was NOT fired. He left EA Sports because he didn't agree with the firection they were going with the series.... So he left and came back with 2K Sports.

You people need to understand that Mike Wang was NOT fired. He left EA Sports because he didn't agree with the firection they were going with the series.... So he left and came back with 2K Sports.

wow man i didnt eve know that. that is truly a great point. if you want a game that has the arcade style elite is your game. if you want a game that has the nuances of 5on 5 and the traditional style of play of the nba and all of the courts around the world 2k is yours for the taking to. its basically what ive been telling myself all these years i wanna play a basketball game the way i play the game 5on5 with friends and other college students based on variables of thinking and reading the defense and reacting and making decisions. CHOICE. the problem is choice and yes CONTROL is a key compenant of any sprots game or game itself but theres no purpose of doing 15 threw the leg dribbles per second and behind the backs and euro steps at will if doesnt counteract with the gameplay or the defense. whats the purpose of creating this scheme when you really cant do that in 5on5 bball. WHAT IS THE POINT IN WINNING!! (john connar voice)

Im tired of that sim word... basketball is basketball... and this is simply bad basketball

hence the reception... I got lil brothers and cousins callin me tellin me how bad this looks and about the jesus glitch lol... I got friends already tryna see if I'll be makin the same dumb decision I do every year with buyin the EA game first day all to go back and cop the other one a week or so later...

I loved live10 but Elite 11 killed EA's basketball division... and the numbers prolly will show it more than us sayin it...

I don't really have strong feelings one way or the other on this title as of now -- at least not ones that are that different from how I felt at E3.

At E3, I felt the control scheme had potential and I still feel that way. But just about nothing else was worked on minus the commentary. All resources were allocated to the controls and controls only it seems.

I wondered why EA wasn't being as active in the PR department this year, and it's clear now -- they weren't ready.

All of this talk about the death of EA basketball, blah, blah, blah is really nothing but melodrama.

We heard this kind of stuff after NBA Live 06, and NBA Live 07.

Will start off saying I'm not a fanboy of 2K. I was a Live head from Lakers vs Celtics, but been playing 2k for the last few years. It started for me when I heard their "hockey guy" or "a hockey guy," was heading the project...what? why? Obviously Dr Jack or Phil Jackson isnt gonna join any video game team, but at least have people tht know the game to an extent. Theres nothing that comforted me to believe tht "a hockey guy" would be able to capture the nuances of high level basketball. But I dont blame him....I blame the chuckleheads tht said "hockey is like basketball, tht guy will turn it around." pfft.

I like the new elite more than the 2k cause 2k's getting boring and elites something new. The controls are easy to get used 2

you so weird to like that lame game is Elite better than 2k .. 2k have players play like real life .. go ahead waste your $60 on lame Elite then you hate it too fast like one week then sold it that mean you're ashamed of yourself for lost $60 on Elite 11

I'm pretty sure this game might be Live 07's equal. I remember that game, these seem pretty similar to me actually....although I'd have to find Live 07 in the archives just to make sure. I get the same feeling at least playing them

I am going to make a big call here........it's definitely not as bad as LIVE 07.

That thing was Hall of Fame bad.

I think ELITE is definitely better than that game now that I've spent more time with it. It's nowhere near as bad as SONY's basketball games...I think you went way too far comparing it to that SONY NBA thing. That game was the worst game of all time by so far that even a box with no disk inside would have been better than SONY's game.

Sadly, ELITE is pretty bad though. The CPU AI has regressed dramatically. I can only assume whoever did the AI knows nothing about basketball / and / or EA simply isn't concerened about USER v CPU this season......

It's unplayable v the CPU.

There's no way I can justify buying it this season.

First LIVE / ELITE I'll not be buying.

i knew there was gonna be problems when all they talked about was controls and physics and didnt spend enough time talking about gameplay and animation. So no surprise...I blame the whole creative team.
