Believe it or not but EA may have leverage from scraping Elite

One dimension not yet fully exploited by the talks are the tremendous opportunities EA has, now that it has Elite canceled. Just think about it, we could actually have a first serious attempt to use 1 game, Live 10, for a two year cycle full with roster support. What does that mean? I bought live last year, decided not to sell it until now and couldn't be a more happier customer. EA has a tremendous opportunity of increasing Live 10 sales by offering a DLC roster update of some sorts. Thats exactly what many people propagated. Use a two year cylce for a new game and spread costs by bringing a dlc as roster update. In my opinion, with this decision EA might hurt 2k11 sales more than they could by bringing out the bugged version of elite. I as a non-die hard basketball fan, although I love actual rosters, now have the first year since this console generation, in which if I want to play with the actual rosters, I only have to stick to live 10. For most non-die-hards this way is the most appreciated way. I am satisfied with how live 10 plays. As a more casual I can live very well with its downsides given the fact that I can now save 50 bucks.
For 2k this is very bad. Okay they might still reach the die hards, but the poeple like me that would like to only have a roster update and not a new iteration are now inclined to stick to their live10 copy or buy one used (20$ is much less than paying for 2k11). It might actually be observable in the sales figures if EA communicates the roster update for live10.

I'm kind of with you on this one. I realy like Live 10 and it will definetly get some play from me after the roster update. I'm curious now that we see they can do an update like this for an old game is their any chance College hoops 10 might get some love. Doubt it but that would be some mad good will from EA.

I'm sure I'm not the only person that has felt a little cheated over the years with the very small amount of change between certain sports games year to year. NCAA Football 08 and 09 come to mind. So a FREE roster update isn't such a bad thing.

I am very curious when the first roster update might happen. EA really took a long time for whatever reason to put out the final update for last year. I know we all think a roster update is a simple thing but I've got a feeling it may be a little more complex than we understand on our end.

Elite cancelled? Its release was only delayed until further notice.

If you really think that this some how hurts 2k numbers, than you are really fooling yourself. Might want to double check on what you wrote. 2k isn't just for die hards, because if it was, it wouldn't have been beating live. No I'm not making this out to be 2k vs live thread, but with elite gone more people will pick up 2k. You will still get people that have live or will get live, but in no way does it even affect their numbers. Just not going to happen that way.

Add me to the list of those who will be repurchasing Live 10, and sticking with it until Elite is completed.

Alot of you people were blasting 2k for not releasing a Hockey game this year and now yall are praising EA for delaying a game one week before its suppose to come out.

Most of yall said that NHL 11 is by far the better game so even if NHl 2k12 comes out its not going to compare.

Now 2k11 is wayyyyyyy better than Elite was going to be but since yall want to be fanboys and profess yall loyalty it's different. If that's not being a hypocrite Idk what is then.

Playing the NBA Live 10 demo again... damn was that a good game. Graphics, gameplay, control... EVERYthing was SO much better. Seriously, what the heck have they done?

For $29 I may pick that back up since it will still be getting updates.

Live /Elite is dead,I will not re-purchasing 10 again. It looked good but played horrible. 2K11 is the way and only way to go this year. To the OP, I will believe it when I see it.
