Live, even as fake as it may seem, is still very challenging nonetheless. Playing the Lakers and winning isn't an easy task. And playing on the SUPERSTAR level difficulty is like playing against a boss in a good action game. You'll usually lose, but when you do finally win it feels very rewarding.

Some of the AI in Live is actually really good I think. If you're winning by like 7 or 8 near the end of the game, the computer will start forcing up 3's with their BEST PLAYERS. Also, the superstars really play selfishly (maybe a bit too much), and its difficult to stop them.

Live is challenging because it cheats. They start stealing every ball you have all of a sudden. Then they jack up all these three's and make them, even if you contested them. Then when they missed, someone on there team got the rebound and passes out and hit's a three. I remember I would have games where Derrick Fisher scores 34 and Kobe would have 22 and Shaq have 20. That's bull, Fisher can't do that. It doesn't matter who I get, the AI cheats. I hated that game because that is so unrealistic.

i remember when i first saw lakers vs. celtics-that was the game that made me get a sega genesis. the ability to play a basketball game with the real players, teams and signature moves was beyond what anyone else offered at the time. i can still remember how exciting it was to play that game.

over the years i've continued to buy live every year through the ups and downs. i've tried different games but aside from the first nba 2k on dreamcast i never felt like any game did anything better than live.

i don't enjoy the gameplay in the 2k series and i don't like the player models. it was tough learning to play defense last year but once you figured it out live was a fantastic game. i am looking forward to it again this year because it looks like we finally have a real franchise mode. i'm sure i'll buy it, learn how to play the game, and then win a championship with the spurs like i always do.

i'm a true live fan and i always will be.

Re: LIVE FANS: What do you like about the Live series in general ?

I buy Live each and every year. It isn't because I am afraid of change, I also buy 2K and ID (sometimes Shootout). I keep the one that appeals to me and how I like to play basketball. I can say without a doubt last year I did not keep Live or 2K because neither appealed to me.
2000 - Live
2001 - 2K
2002 - 2K
2003 - ID
2004 - ?
I have the opportunity to give each title a fair shot each year, and because NO game is perfect and without flaw I try each version every year. I'm looking forward to this years crop.

I agree with Johnny Woodcocks assessment of Live. I used to get it every year, (except for 98-2002, b/c there was only one version of the game on the N64, and NBA Courtside Part II was one of the best and most underrated games that not a lot peeps played and I was hooked on it). I have a GC and now a PS2, so my options were limited but that being said, I really enjoyed it last year. Yes it was fast, but I prefered the faster games due to the fact I am a big fan of bball in the '80s. That being said, once you put fatigue on and the difficulty level, the game slows down considerably. As for the high shooting %'s, you pick your poison. I would rather have that is challenging and has high shooting %'s than a game that is trying so hard to be a sim that you miss too many easy shots.

I actually had NBA 2K3, but got bored with it pretty quickly. Is live perfect??? By no means, but it had a fun package. I will be getting it this year, but I will check out ESPN, as it looks like the action will be a little bit faster. I think everyone also has it in mind that if the game is slower, its more NBA like. Even with the slow down that a lot of teams play, its more because of the talent level than them actually wanting to be slow. If I had an X-Box, I would love to try out the ID series, as I remember it as having the speed of the NBA (Not as fast a live, but still something that seemed like basketball), but weaving the sim aspects in so that action seems realistic without having to totally slow the game down just to get realistic stats.
