Re: One of the real problems no one\'s been mentioning...

I've seen a topic similar to this one on another site, and I agree with it. I've seen a lot of flashy dunks in games on the break, but there aren't as many in traffic. A few people do them in traffic, but it is rare. And they only do it if it's the only way to get the shot in(e.g. Kobe vs. the Timberwolves).

Games should put more situational dunk animations in and more dunk attributes (half court/fast break/traffic). Different dunks for different situations instead of a group of dunks for a player.

While playing games, I've gotten used to it somewhat. In situations where I would expect the guy to dunk, I really don't care as much what kind of dunk he does, but that is probably from years of seeing all types of dunks all the time. I think NBA Courtside had the best situational dunks most times. They didn't have too many crazy dunks in the game anyway.

Ive been anyway from the live series for a while now, but I agree with you on the dunks. and if you put the sliders lower on the dunks, it doesnt make less crazy dunks happen. Instead the players dunking ability gets worse.

I'm talking about the 360s, double pump reverses, and other ridiculous dunks that you couldn't get through a quarter without seeing. Did anyone else hate this?

I've been a huge NBA fan for about 12 years now, and I can't remember seeing more than a few 360s in my lifetime. And in literally all the sims for the last couple years, you'd have mediocre NBA players doing these dunks not on fast breaks, but in traffic. In my entire NBA viewing history, the only person I can really remember being able to pull off ridiculous dunks while in traffic was Vince Carter (and that was a couple seasons ago - he certainly hasn't been doing it anytime recently).

So I'm wondering if any of this is going to be fixed for any of the games coming out this year - Live especially. All the game makers focusing on making ultra-realistic hardcore sims always let this slip for some reason - in fact, not only do they let it slip, but they make it the focus of the game trailers and preview videos. Yeah, I guess it's cool in a trailer to see a mediocre NBA player 360 over two defenders in traffic, but in a sim I maybe want to see that once or twice a season at most - and then it should be nominated for some "Play of the Year" type award. What's "in the game" in real life? Big men doing straight one or two handed flushes, and better than average guards and forwards performing soaring one or two handed dunks. Maybe the occasional dunk with more flash on a wide-open fast break. After that, the only people doing 360s and the like are players like Vince, Kobe, Jrich, etc. - and that's in either no traffic, or the lightest of traffic. So does anyone know if they put it "in the game" this year??

                        Look guys,

We have to face the fact that the majority of people who buy these games are probably not interested in a 100% pure simulation.

These gamedevelopers are trying to appease both sides in a way but the dunks is something that will always be there because it appeals to the majority of people who buy the game.

Ex: Live can be in arcade mode and have all the fouls turned up just like in simulation mode. Why not just have the flashy dunks show up in arcade mode but not when in simulation mode? That wouldnt be difficult to do and seems like a pretty good solution to me.
