Re: Where does EA SPORTS' NBA Sim title need to go to compete?

For an EA Sports NBA title to succeed they are going to have to do something 2K hasn't done. Let's be honest, 2K has done a lot of great things in the last 2 years. Things they really didn't need to do because, well they didn't have any competition.

First off, they need a good, solid gameplay base. They need to focus and keeping the game fluid and making it a true NBA experience. If this fails, the game will fail.

Second, they need to take their time. If they rush this game, they will not succeed. I know everyone wants a product that is perfect, but it won't happen in the first year of release. It takes time to get everyones signature moves and shots in the game. It takes time to get legends in the game.

Third, this game has to present something that is going to shy away from what 2K does. I like 2K12, but sometimes it just doesn't feel like a NBA game should. I don't always feel like players move the way they should. EA can take the good and the bad and use it. They can also use what they have failed on in the past to help them. They shouldn't have any excuses on release day. They have had a long time to develop the gameplay. I don't expect a deep franchise mode or a ton of features. On day 1 release, I expect solid core gameplay and good graphics. The graphics is something EA will ALWAYS succeed at. Look at their titles: Madden, NCAA, FIFA, NHL. They all are very good graphically.

Lastly, they have got to market this game well. Keep in mind, not everyone knows EA is making another basketball game. As far as the average PS3/360 owner knows, there is only going to be one basketball game for a long time. I could probably go ask my friends if they know EA is making a basketball game and I bet 95% of them would be clueless. We are a very small percentage of gamers.

Do I think EA will succeed? I would like to think so. I hope they do. I think good competition can only help both games. I really think Elite was rushed and the developers in my opinion did an awesome job putting together a game in months. For them to almost complete a game and release it in the time they had was crazy, nobody should expect a company to do that. I think EA had an idea it was going to be cancelled from the start. I wouldn't doubt if Tiburon used NBA Live as a base and is perfecting it. Maybe they created a new one. But either way, they will have what, 2-3 years to do it? Personally, I am pumped. Let's see what you can do EA, because almost everyone is counting you out.
