Forget the legends (they are a useless gimmick) and save the money you would have spent buying everyone's likeness. Total waste of resources. Just make an awesome CAP system and let us share everything online. Do it like Fight Night, where the user-created boxers were amazingly accurate. The community will take care of it for you. Just focus on gameplay and leave us as many customization options as possible.Comment

I wouldn't say it's a grimmick. Many people are loving what 2K did because they now can recreate some magical moments from legends of the game in a great game. I personally don't mind much about legends simply because I began watching the NBA on the early 00's but I respect those classic players and teams, I'd surely appreciate the inclusion of legends if I started watching a couple of decades before.Comment

I disagree with most. Live should focus on exaggerated gameplay. Not straight arcade, but just exaggerated with sim outcomes.
The game should be about excitement, strategy, and old school fun.
Keep the stat tracking reasonable, the modes basic, the online a prime feature, character skill sets to truly separate teams. Let the mastering of the different teams be the longevity, not a 30 year franchise mode...PLEASE STOP THIS NONSENSE. 5 years top period.
And make the freakN game genuinely challenging, NO cheap CPU, just great Boss players and teams in playoff.
Hold these sport games to higher standards, THEY ONCE WERE THE INDUSTRY STANDARDS.What world do you live in?Comment

Re: This is what NBA Live has to do, to compete and this is coming from a Loyal 2k Ga
The legends were the ONLY reason i bought this and last years game. I do play with some of the current teams though. I hope EA does raise their game. They usually do when they are forced to compete with 2k. In this case 2k's game is and has been 100% superior to EA's. Remember when 2k hockey was superior to EA's hockey trash? Well look how the rolls reversed and it happend fairly quickly.
EA has tons more money and resources, so they have no execuses to not put out a competing product. Lets hope as it healthy for the video game consumer. It would be like the old NFL 2k Vs Madden days. Two companies pushing eachother, loved it...Comment

Re: This is what NBA Live has to do, to compete and this is coming from a Loyal 2k Ga
Not a kid. Granted, you're likely older and less relevant, but you clearly missed my point. The "Legends" are undoubtedly a gimmick. One you may enjoy along with many other paying customers, but it's bells and whistles nonetheless. And when I said "useless", maybe a better word was "needless". With a more robust Create-A-Player setup (which EA already implements in other sports games) the community can make a Larry Bird that looks and plays as authentically as anything 2K came up with. Hex editors have proven that much. EA could simply add in some signature shot package named "Celtic Pride" (wink-wink) to simplify the process and it's done.
And now EA doesn't have to cut Larry an unnecessary check or chase down Reggie and Charles for consent. Devote that cash to artists, designers, coders. 2K's old school teams are all missing players anyway and most ratings are hilariously wrong.Comment

That and this 2K gimmick has effectively killed EA's NBA title for 5 years without spending so much as a single cent on an exclusive license.Comment

Re: This is what NBA Live has to do, to compete and this is coming from a Loyal 2k Ga
This can't be further from the truth. Everything else you said was cool, but this, oh no.
Legends add to the game. The NBA has a rich history with great players spanning 60+ years, from Mikan to MJ. That only makes 2K better, and sales prove it.
EA is gonna have to compete with that. Definately in my case, if they want my dollars.
I'd also have EA continue with FIBA. That, to me, was the only thing Live 10 (I agree, go back to Live instead of Elite) had over 2K10. I'd kill for a FIBA or Euroleague roster in the next 2K game.
legends are the real deal.....just because it gets stale to him doesn't mean it'll get stale to many others
in fact one of the reasons why i've been dissapointed with Live over the last few years is because they don't include those teams instead they include FIBA teams when i think Legends would have provided more lasting appeal
Hell even if EA didn't want to inlcude Legends they should expand the CAP numbers for created players that way we can do our own Legends
Live 10 was ok but i really wanted to take that game and turn it into a entire league with all Classic players
So that guy is speaking for himself because i can never get tired of playing with Jordan, Bird, Magic, Olajuwon and many other greats
EA IMO only needed to improve the animations in this series that was the games biggest drawback the animations were way to robotic and goofy looking at times.
The AI could be improved with edits to player ratings but that didn't help the animations which NBA 2k blows their @zz out the water with every year.
EA if your reading this let me handle your Legends rosters and research if you don't have employees that can handle that taskNCAA FOOTBALL 14 ALUMNI LEGENDS CPU vs CPU DYNASTY THREAD

Re: This is what NBA Live has to do, to compete and this is coming from a Loyal 2k Ga
as a live 10 loyalist and fan.....
use live 10 as the base, then add:
1. AI logic based on ratings, and tendencies to govern them/ the dna was a good idea but not deep/flexible enough to not get stale/scripted...
2. way more animations, way more/camera options..
3. in depth franchise mode/logic
4. customization of coaches/playbooks/team/draft logic etc
5. be a pro with in depth stats/growth possibilities/multiple year/ability to change teams possibilities etc
6. ea locker, for settings/sliders/rosters/teams/everything
7. sliders, alot of them
8. fiba/create a team/tournament
9. make your game fully customizable in all areas we all have mega hard drives with unlimited save capability no more restrictions on user generated content...
10. online, this is an area the comp cant fully grasp, but you nailed it before
i would not try to compete with 2k, i would appeal to the loyalists which means as many have said " it must be NBA LIVE again" live 10 was awesome just lacked depth in every possible area.
why, i love 2k11 and 12 when i ever get it, is becuase of the attention to detail/depth the game has.... last year i was able to complete change the entire gameplay when i downloaded a new user generated roster.
i love user generated content and if EA can get this in LIVE where we can really change things and see real tangible changes i could do wonders for my gameplay......NOW PLAYING: NBA Live, madden 11,12, battlefield v, F1 2020 and injustice 2 and COD:MW
#18 greatest EVA....

Re: This is what NBA Live has to do, to compete and this is coming from a Loyal 2k Ga
As a avid gamer and BASKETBALL fan, I want to see something that comes out without needing a patch immediately and plays well. I thought Live 10 was good, I thought 2K11 and 2K12 were very good, but still needed some work.
For Live 13, I wouldn't say to go with legends, that's 2K's thing and I think that would just show that they weren't very creative. I'd say first of all, surprise us with an NCAA Basketball 13 first of all. That way you don't have to waste time with a create draft class feature and I think we all miss our NCAA basketball.
(Add teambuilder to that and I'd buy it IMMEDIATELY).
Improve on fundamentals that 2K hasn't been so good at, which to ME is defense, half court offense, and passing. 2K to me seems to be built for fast breaks, I want to see something that can be successful simulating high paced ans slow paced basketball.
Obviously improve graphics and add some animations. Don't give FULL control like Elite 11 was going to do, but find the median. I hate when 2K advertises so many animations and a small amount ever happen. I also hate when I tell my player to do something and he does something COMPLETELY different.
I have confidence that EA can do good things with their next game, I like 2K games as well but I will buy the one that impresses me the most, I'm not a loyalist for either.NBA
