I think this is a great game. If you are the type of person who plays in a realistic manner, this game is a great simulation of NBA basketball. If you are the type of person who wants to "pro-hop" to the hoop endlessly, you'll probably be disappointed as it can become a dunk fest. I have played two games on "Starter", and have experienced two very enjoyable, HIGHLY realistic games.

I agree. Good game but could be better. Going for ESPN next week. THere are just so many bugs
Framerate should not be like this. Its not big but it does get annoying. You can't stop the fast break, freestyle sucks can't do anything with it. The CPU will never grab the boards right and then then the high blocking and the dumb AI. I can see why now all those mags rated ESPN so much higher. Live is a POS

Re: DOES THE GOOD OUT WEIGH THE BAD
If I say "yes" i'd be in the minority. I'm really enjoying the game--getting good results. The pro hop issue isn't an issue if you play right. Sure you can pro hop but has anyone actually done a pro hop in a real life basketball situation. It will create space, i don't know what level you guys are playing at but bump it up a notch. I 've had times when i used the pro-hop and i got stopped in my tracks. It's a fun game the addition of sliders mkaes it even better. Every basketball game will have flaws--it just depends which ones you can live with and live without it. If you like live in the past then you'l love this game.Comment

Why should you have to compensate for something that they make? Why would they make it so that you can use one move over and over again and consistently score? When do you decide to use the "pro hop"?Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: DOES THE GOOD OUT WEIGH THE BAD
I would use the pro-hop in the following instances: 1) the defender was shading me to one side or the other. I would front him, cross-over to get around, do the pro-hop, and depending on where I was positionally, either try a layup drive or dish out; 2) if the defender was tight, and I was controlling a good three point shooter and near the arc, I would press "towards" the three point line with the left analog, and pro-hop. When pressing back, this would cause the player to take a big step back and to the side, giving him a little extra room to shoot a three. Try this out, its a neat looking animation; and 3) if I was controlling Yao or Mourning or a decent low post guy, I would back in, press pro-hop (which is a power dribble), and he would do a power move to the basket. I don't think that usage is covering up for any inherent problems in the gameplay. Are you able to drive to the hole every single time? I know I certainly was not able to playing on Starter last night. Then again, a typical sequence of play for me is having my point guard bring the ball up court, working the ball around the perimeter, and then trying to pass it inside to a low-post guy. If he gets doubled, working the ball back outside and around until an open shot is found, or working it through the other block.Comment

Re: DOES THE GOOD OUT WEIGH THE BAD
I'm enjoying it. More than I thought I would.
There are a number of reasons, but the main one is the physical feel of the game. I've always felt that most BBall games didn't effectively model the crowdedness of the lane in the NBA, or how much contact there is on most plays. This is a game where you need to make plays in traffic and bull your way to the rack.
I'm also mighty impressed with defense - maybe a few too many blocks at default sliders/difficulty, but it is really evident when you get a hand in someone's face.5WG | Facebook | Twitter | fiftytwoplays
