    My uneducated "review"

I bought this game yesterday on a whim. It was just a gut feeling. The funny thing is, I don't like NBA basketball. I haven't really watched much NBA ball in the last 5 years. Before then I was a rabid fan, but I don't need to list the reasons why I don't like the NBA anymore. Anyway, I think NBA Live has basically sucked as well for the last 5 years as well, and I haven't owned it since about 1995 on the PC. Last year I owned 2K3, mostly for XBL, and I liked it very much.

Well let me tell you, NBA live 2004 is the most fun I can EVER remember having with an NBA game EVER! I guess I'm just not as critical about NBA games as I am of football games, but what a blast! I think the gameplay is amazing. The graphics and animations are solid, the sound is great, and I guess in a word 'satisfying'. The only thing I HATE is the fact that after a dead ball, the ball is inbound in frickin' millisecond! You have to be lightning quick on the start button just to get a substitute in the game. This is very frustrating.

ALl I can say, is that if you're on the fence about this one. You MUST rent it. I can't tell you to spend $50 on something you may hate, but to me it was well worth it. Another note, I have not seen the framerate/slowdown thing at all? The FA bug, I haven't gotten to that point yet, but I'm sure it's there as everyone is seeing it. Well that's my ramble, I'm loving this game, and now it's back to NBA Live!

    Re: My uneducated \"review\"

    Very nice review..

I am pretty much in the same boat, except that I have watched and followed basketball to a lesser extent the last few years..

But I haven't played an NBA game for quite some time.. As I talk to more people about Live 2004, it seems many are in the same situation..

This game is very well done, and could potentially bring a lot of new blood back into the series..

IMO EA Sports is turning things around and making the majority of their games head in the correct direction.. And that is a very good thing.

If by "right direction", you mean more realistic and sim-based rather than arcade, I agree. I have always thought that game companies should diversify their lines, and by making NBA Street "arcade", and NBA Live "sim", all demographics should be sated.

I feel the same way. EA has done a lot to put some of their franchises back on the right path. MVP Baseball was the beginning of it all. THat game was so much improved over Triple Play. THey are not even comparable. Did it have flaws? Hell yeah it did, but it was the most improved game of the year. Until NHL 2004 came out. And now NBA Live.

The past few years, I bought Sega Hockey, Basketball, and Football every year. I bought NASCAR and FIFA from EA. THis may be the first year EA runs the table with me. I cannot believe I own 7 EA games this year, with two more left to go.

EA still has a long way to go, but they have started to bring some welcomed realism back into their games.
