    Re: Defensive Tips Thread

I have yet to figure out how to do any of the intercepting animations that the cpu does on Defense. I have so far seem him stick his hand in the passing lane and catch the pass. I have seen the CPU tip the pass in the same manner. I have also seen guards jump and tip the pass as soon as I let it go. But nothing I do seem to duplicate these defensive animations.
While I am at it, can anyone tell me how to dive for loose balls on the PS2?

As for the double team animation, I am not sure if this works, but it seem like I have better results of free the ball if I continue to tap the right analog stick in the dirrection that the ball is. If the are struggling for it up high I keep tapping up and so on.
Good blog on video game patching

i know that but can you change if you want to use the trap defense or the 1-3-1 defense or something.

What helps me defend fast breaks is pressing the L2 button as soon as they get it in transition. I grab that man and turbo back to defend. The L2 is to switch to the closest man to the basket.

You have a bunch of plays you can choose from, but only four at a time (same on offense). You have go to the defensive strategies screen and you can choose which 4 defensive plays you want to use. Unfortunately, you don't get this option online. It really limits the strategy portion of the game when playing online.

make sure you turn your offensive rebounding off... that is a key also as soon as you shoot the ball get back on defense. if i shoot with rose then i make him get back as soon as his feet touch the ground. i was getting breaked on until i did this.

also don't be afraid to sprint back on defense. if you watch the cpu when they have a fast break opportunity they are sprinting back not jogging so if your not sprinting then you will definately get beat. remember whoever shoots immediately get back with them or use the last man back button to pick the man farthest back and then sprint and make them go to their half court. also sprint back to the paint not to the man if you get in front the will usually pull back but you have to get to them BEFORE they get near the paint

also if you have a slow team don't take quick shots. that kills you against a running team
