Re: Live \'04: The Subtle Things...

I think the fact that there are slight differences in the slams. Take a guy like Mobley into practice mode and have him slam over and over. First thing he can slam one handed with both hands. Then he does a one handed dunk off 2 feet from a stand still. Make him dunk while running, he will jump off one foot, Some time he will have his feet together and dunk, other times he will spread his legs far apart. And even in a third variation of the almost same dunk his legs will cross. These are all normal one handed dunks. Keep doing one handed dunks and you will notice that some times he will **** the ball back a little before dunking. Other times he is stretched out like he can barely reach the rim.
I started noticing little differences in the dunks when someone posted about they can't see the 100+ dunks that the game was rumored to have.

They even have a dunk where Steve Franchise dunks with two hands, and hangs on the rim with with one and turns, landing facing the opposite end of the court. Classic Franchise.
Good blog on video game patching

Re: Live \'04: The Subtle Things...

You're right, I spent a bunch of time in Practice mode with lots of different players and there are definitely over 100 dunks. Try Shaq - all power. Then Yao (Yao's dunks are classic- he hardly gets off the ground, because, of course, he doesn't have to ). Then try Franchise - all 2-footers. Then try KG or Stromile - all athletic 1 footers. Then try some chumpier big guys like Gugs. Or a guard like Peeler. You'll see how many there are.

Whle you're there check out their freestyle moves out of triple-threat. Shaq is different from KG, Franchise is different from Peeler. It's awesome how deep it goes....

I am really enjoying this game a lot of it is because of the little things. Here are my thoughts:

                        - Post Game: Several things- you can no longer just dunk over people, you force up shots and sometimes they go in, sometimes you get called with a charge, or sometimes the contact forces a miss. This is awsome and very realistic. It's frusturating but "it's in the game"
                        - Fighting for position and through the lane. More than fighting for positon, I love how players fight through screens or set back screens. Players no longer morph through eachother, they run through the lane realistically.
                        - A very little thing, but I love how players clap after a foul is called or if there is a turnover, where the ball bounces out of bounds and the player claps. Awsome!
                        - The runner. I was playing with the wolves and I took Sam Cassell along the baseling and accidently hit square and he threw up a runner that looked exactly like something same would do.
                        - I've seen people complain about this, but the backing down by point guards, even after they cross half court isn't annoying, it's realistic. That's what point guards do, they protect the ball and often times they do that with their butt.
                        - Running backwords. This is the best backwords foot shuffiling animation I've ever seen in a videogame, the way they peddle backwords, the way their body moves, the hips etc. It's all very realistic.
                        - The over-the-shoulder type pass thing. This is something that players like Steve Nash and Troy Hudson do all the time in real life, they like toss the ball over their shoulder off their hip. This game has that animation.

I digress I can go on and on. This game isn't perfect, but it's pretty damn close and if you have sliders you can change to anyway you like. I love that it's hard as hell. Last year I would play a season on superstar and I would go 54-2 in a 56 game season. Once you figured out how to outlet the ball, run the lanes, and use freestyle the game turned into a track meet. With this game, teams that run, run, and teams that don't slow it down. And now you actually have to use an offensive set, find the open shot, not force shots, etc.
Overall I think it's a great game. I can't think of any real game play issues that I couldn't change if I wanted to with sliders. I haven't played through a dynasty to experience issues with the free agency thing, but everything else is great. Even the dynasty stuff that I have played is good.
