    Live '04: The Subtle Things...

Alright, most of us have had Live '04 for a week now and we all know about the 10-Man Mo-Cap, the Pro-Hop, separate Jumpshot and Dunk/Layup buttons, etc.

But, what are some of the subtle things that you've noticed that help create great atmosphere and total b-ball game experience.

--Crowd Chants (we have a thread on this already, but I'll include it anyway).
From the Cowbells at Arco, to the organs at MSG and the "MVP" chants for MVP candidates, these are all good touches IMO. Things like the crowd clapping on-beat to an instrumental that's being played is cool. Subtle and not noticed at first, but cool.

    --Travelling Calls.
When was the last time these were called in b-ball games besides the obvious jumping and not releasing the shot?
I think everyone who's been called for it for the first time had a split second of being pissed, but then just nodded their head in respect of a good call.

    --"It's Gotta Be The Shoes".
Now, I was the last person to care about shoes. "Shoes? Man, we're talking about shoes?" But, after settling on some sliders that I'll stick with, you start messing around with other areas of the game and shoes are one of them. Man the shoes are deep! And, it's nothing big, but how cool is it to do like most NBA teams and wear all white during the regular season and then be able to switch to all blacks in unity during the playoffs?!? The headband thing is another story, but not a game killer.

--I've started to notice player specific characteristics the more I play.
Now, Kenyon Martin's backboard tap after dunks is nothing new. But, I noticed that (on the rare occasions that it's done), different players do it differently. K-Mart will dunk, tap the backboard and run on. Baron Davis on the other hand, dunks, does a little chin-up, and then slaps the backboard. Same thing, but done totally different.
Two other things that were totally meaningless but damn why did I notice them- Jamal Mashburn plays with one high white sock and one low (bearly viewable) black sock. And coaches don't wear the same suit every game. Please don't ask me why I noticed, I just did.

    --Jumpshot animations.
Now, I haven't noticed anything like Dirk's kick (is it even in there?) but there are different jumpshot animations for big men and smaller guards. I think this is a cool feature especially when you're playing as one of those big men and just throw up some garbage knowing that, from the way he released it, there's no way it's going in.

These are just some small things that make the game more enjoyable IMO. Anybody notice anything that they want to add on? Certain things take awhile to notice and I just thought that we should kinda list them so others can take notice too. I mean, for all the threads that were started with people just searching for bugs to bash this game, I think this is only right.

One move that looks exactly like Micheal Finley's move is the the jump stop or pro hop where he fade's away on his jumper. I thought that was so sweet! Also, it may be just my imagination but when I shoot 3's with Antoine Walker, it looks exactly like he shoots in real life. Almost like a set shot! He's streaky as hell in the game too.

Yup, I love the fact that you can travel in this game and get called for it. It really feels like you have total control over the player, and that you're on the court this way. That there's not just team strategy, but one-on-one strategy as well in the game. I just think it's the perfect mix, from what I've played so far.

Since I play the Pc version, the shoes weren't that big of a deal to me--but a great little addition nonetheless. I first noticed when I played NCAA 2004 football, the nike teams look so cool with the swoosh--it really adds up.

It's funny how when the gameplay is solid, every little thing is a nice touch. I love the live 2004 gameplay with the right sliders.

lol, hell yea. That pro hop fadaway jumpshot is vintage Fin. That is Mike-Fin's money move.

EA did the animation for that move very well.
