Anyone have any thoughts on this? I have never seen the CPU team be called for 3 defensive seconds, so I am seriously considering turning it off, since I am never going to camp in the lane for that long anyhow.

Anyone else about ready to turn off defensive 3 seconds?
Have played quite a few games, and I find that the game doesn't do a good job of determining whether I am guarding someone while standing in the paint. However, that isn't my major problem. The real pisser is that after the technical free throw (make or miss, though missing results in a slightly longer delay), the CPU inbounds the ball in about a nanosecond, and always to the guy who just shot the FT. Meanwhile, all my guys are still 20 feet away from him because they were standing away during the technical free throw. FT guy then goes in for a dunk or layup. None of my players are even visible on the screen at this point, and I use the baseline high camera! Basically, every 3 second violation turns into a free 3 points for the CPU, which is just insane.

well if you don't camp out in the lane then you won't get called for the 3 seconds."Never trust a big butt and a smile."-Ricky Bell

Like I mentioned above, the defensive 3 seconds detection leaves a lot to be desired. Which isn't to say I don't occasionally get called for it legitemately. I would say I get called for it almost twice a game, when in reality, I am in violation of the rule once every 3-4 games. Most of the time, I find that I get called on this when I have been in the lane about 2 seconds. At that point, I am ready to step out towards my man. Suddenly another player flashes into the lane, so I step over and cover him, either on a double team or when one of my men gets beat. The game doesn't seem to think that this action qualifies as defending someone. So I get called for the violation.
In any event, that wasn't the main issue at all. Your basic point was, "Don't get called for it then", which doesn't address the fundamental problem. Imagine, for example, if after every shooting foul I committed, the CPU shot 4 FTs instead of 2. Would you then tell me: "Don't foul guys then"? Of course you wouldn't.
My point is, if I am called for defensive 3 seconds, regardless of whether its the right or wrong call, I should be penalized the FT. I shouldn't be penalized a FT AND the NBA equivalent of a penalty kick as well.
Edit: The problem doesn't directly relate to the 3 second call necessarily. Basically, it would be a huge problem after a techincal free throw of any type. However, since the defensive 3 second violation is the only thing in the game that seems to trigger a technical FT, it was relevent to mention.Comment

I undersatnd what you mean man. Its not the defensive 3 seconds that bugs you, its the fact that ater the shot the cpu gets the ball inbounded INSTANTLY with nobody around to guard him. Ive cut it off as well because that plain sucks.Comment

I personally hate the Defensive 3 Second rule. When the NBA finally implemented zone defense last year I assumed the rule would be scrapped. Very odd rule if you ask me.Comment
