Iverson misses a contested layup (no foul) late in OT with about 17secs left. Computer comes down and drives for it's own short jump hook with [Cleveland's center]. Cavs are up 98-96 w/7-8secs left. I call time out just before crossing the half court line w/5.something secs left (to "compose" my team lol). After I come out of the timeout, the computer has [Cleveland's center] TAKING A TECHNICAL FOUL FREE THROW. Which of course he makes. AND the computer is given possession of the ball. Another game quit out of frustration, although in the bigger scheme I allow the loss (went back and sim'd the game) to occur.
Okay, WTF!!!!!!! happened. NO explanation was given as to why or what happened - Marv Albert was rambling about something, but not about why the computer got the ball. I thought that maybe I didn't have any timeouts, but I paused the game as Cleveland's center was on the foul line - I had one TO left (it was grayed out).
I like Live. I'm not big on sliders because I hate feeling like I'm simply making the game easier for me rather than what the developers intended for the difficulty to be. But the constant contact in Live on default makes for a frustrating game - it HAS to be tweaked, and I've messed w/my sliders (All Star difficulty). That being said, I've always had the feeling that EA games in general can feel pre-determined - sometimes VERY pre-determined. That if the computer wants to win, it will, regardless of what you do. Going undefeated in a Madden franchise? At some point, you come against the unstoppable foe (which is part of the reason I no longer play the computer). I understand that in a way, all games "cheat" or compensate in a way. It's just that EA games do it in such a blatant way it's ridiculous.
Again, I like Live. I think EA did a fantastic job with it improving from last year. It's just unfortunate that the AI in their games is so questionable at times. I don't think the game "went out of it's way" to cheat. I think what happened to me is more of a very random glitch - but I think that glitch occurred because at some point in the game it became pre-determined that I was going to lose. Maybe I'll lose by missing too many open shots, or missing contested layups. Or maybe my sure-handed wide receiver will drop a wide-open pass, or my running back will fumble as I'm driving for the go-ahead score. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I've seen it happen in EA Sports games way too much to explain it otherwise.
