PLAYER LOCK: why dont CPU teammates ever shoot??

I have started my PC season in NBA Live 2004 and have been playing with Player Lock on controlling only my SG but for the life of me I just dont understand why none of my CPU teammates ever shoot the ball.......I have to press my shoot button to have THEM shoot it too and whenever I press the pass button, they will immediately pass it. Which kinda defeats the purpose of player lock mode....dont ya think???

Am I doing anything wrong or is there another certain setting that I am missing to get my CPU teammates to actually play for themselves??

I much prefer the way Inside Drive 2003 handles player lock. You only control YOUR player's actions....thats it!

I was wondering the same thing, Lisa. I rented both espn and Live this week and was really annoyed by this in Live.

Yes its very annoying when you want to play and control only one player and you expect the rest of your team to react and think on their own and then the game requires you to do all the work such as shooting and passing.

The game has alot of potential...it many things right and captures the feeling of really shooting a ball better than any other game. The rotation of the ball, the follow thru of the player's shot, the tons of bump , grind, and off the ball animations really give the game a wonderful feel.

However, there still seems to be some issues I've noticed in the pC version. First off the game engine is terrible. The motion captured movements and transitions into different motions can get very choppy at times and feel inconsistent. Certain movements will just skip transistions altogether or just seem too speeded up in comparison to the rest of the flow, very noticeable on freestyle dribbling and special moves and changes of directions....it can get pretty sloppy at times and loses it's fluid flow. Also certain passes just shotgun out of player's hands without convincing passing animations and appear to rocket or pinball around the court like last year....however it has been improved a bit

I am VERY tempted to try the XBOX version because EA seems to always capture better fluidity and tighter analog control with their console versions of all their sports games. The PC just doesnt get the solid ports.

Anyone know if the XBOX version of NBA LIVE 2004 is a much tighter more polished feeling game?

I use player lock, (I thought, I was the only person in the world who uses that). I also find my computer teammates annoying. Theres no way to get them to do anything for themselves, except when your on a fast break. If they recieve the ball at the right time on a break, they will automatically take it to the hoop. I suggest trying to run plays, The guys run the plays pretty well, and free each other up for open shots, all you have to do is press the shot button when they get an open look. Runninng plays makes it a little easier using player lock.
