Digital downloads work so well for music because they take 30 seconds to download, and you can store THOUSANDS of songs on a very limited space.

Take the Vita, for example; 32gb only holds 8-16 games. Yes, consoles have up to 500gb harddrives, but the games are also bigger, and even if you give us 1000gb, your space is still limited, especially if you DO put movies, music, and pictures on there.

Right now, it just doesn't make sense, and next gen, the size of these games are only going to get bigger as the technology progresses.

The average persons download speed in America is not even remotely high enough to download a game in a timely manner. I have a decent connection 20 down/5 up but even then its close to 50 bucks a month and still takes a couple of hours to download games off Steam. If a consumer had a choice between downloading it and waiting hours to finish or going to the store and picking it up in 20 mins, the consumer 9 out of 10 times will go to the store. Now this example relates to the download size of the game, if Live 13 is around 8 gigs which most games are, then it will most likely be both retail and digital. But if its around 3 gigs then the digital market might work. There just are tons of negatives and positives with digital.
It will be an option probably next GEN. NCAA 13 you able to download it now.

Gamers are going to have to adjust. There's really nothing we can do about it.

Remember when we used to have to blow in cartridges before playing?

Key word here is option. Even for PC gaming, they still have discs since it can take a while for games to download. Some might talk about the online service Steam, but you can argue that most people who use Steam, have gaming computers and more than likely high internet speeds to accommodate. I doubt any title the size and scope of a game whether it be Live, 2K, Madden, The Show, or any AAA game will ever be digital only. There are some games that can work such as Trails HD or the Tony Hawk HD, but those games are only around a gig of data. As for NCAA, I would love to see the sale numbers between retail and digital, I am guessing and will say that it will likely be 95% retail(disc) to only 5%(digital).

I am currently working on my own game right now. It will only be available digitally. As such, my game is an indie game and doesn't have the size and scope of a AAA game. A huge matter of whether a game will sell well digitally is the sheer size of the game. Most AAA games are 8 gigs while digital games like mine are about a gig. With that said, AAA games will have to be available to both parties. Sorry for going off note, just trying to use an example.

Re: NBA Live 13 - Digital Download?

I don't agree with the complaints. Going digital is the way to go in my opinion and for many reasons:

I don't have to worry about physical media that can:
                1. Get lost
                2. Get stolen
                3. Be damaged
                4. Degrade over time
                5. Has to be carried with you. That's fine for one game, but what if you have 50 and you want access to all of them.

I love that ALL of my music is always accessible. I want the same for my games. Steam is the only way I buy PC games. Except for WoW that is STILL a digital purchase.

Re: NBA Live 13 - Digital Download?

I would tend to agree for the most part with that. The Free Games that I downloaded for being a PS Plus member is awesome. Doesn't take overly long to download, and the ability to just sit there and flip through them without changing media is great. I get about 30 minutes every few days to sit down and play for a few, and the last thing I want to do is have to get up, change discs, etc. It's remarkably handy.

With that said, I don't think the Digital Download progression is why we're seeing Live 13 show up there. I think it's just not going to be worth the money they'd pay for the discs, so they're just going the cheapest route, as to not lose too much money when it stinks up the joint. Just my personal thought, however right or wrong that might be. I'm anticipating the info to drop though, just to see what it looks like.

if nba live is only available for digitial download , people are taking a HUGE gamble because once you pay for it you are stuck. If they dont drop the price below retail then they are intent on ripping off everyone

i think its a matter of preference, i personally hate steam, i prefer to own my product, i backup everything and every game..... thats just me, but i stay away for cloud storage (hackers), digital download (tooooooo slow for big games in which is becoming the norm now) and other stuff like that, but thats just what i prefer

If they use the digital format I hope they release the game at something like $39.99, otherwise I'm not going to pay 60 bucks for nothing

I fell like EA has got an ESPN NFL 2k5 brewing(if you don't know 2k5 was released at the price of 19.99 from launch, scared the crap out of EA and next year EA got exclusive rights to NFL) it would be a huge blow to 2k to release live 13 at a lower price and 2k sports isn't as strong as a company as EA in 05...

You're kind of missing out on the point that 2K5 was a quality game that was released at that price point. If EA is letting a pile of dog doo doo out at a lower price, 2K has absolutely nothing to worry about. EA had to worry because a game that was better than theirs was on the market for a lower price that allowed the competition to cut into their market share significantly. The lower price point is to get the people to the table. Your game is what's supposed to keep them there.
