Actually, I've noticed that if you play with REAL player lock (as in setting it this way when you pause the game) your teammates run their real offense and shoot, pass, drive, etc. regardless of what you 'tell' them to do.
But, when you do the temporary player lock with the right stick click, they will just hold the ball and do nothing unless you tell them to. There's got to be a reason for that, or maybe it's just a glitch....

What +++exactly+++ do you mean by this?
Are you saying that for those of us who play Live 2004 with the player lock mode, we should start a normal game WITHOUT locking on a certain player in the Select Controller settings, play maybe a few seconds with this AND THEN puase the game and lock to your favorite player and your computer-controlled teammates will then shoot, pass, etc. the ball?
Is that what you're saying?
Now, I know A LOT of you guys don't use this Player Lock feature and that's cool but some of us Live fanatics do. For me, it adds a DIFFERENT kind of realism. I'm talking about creating yourself and maybe even +++dominating+++ the NBA (heh, I wish) and/or being the MAN in your favorite team!
I mean, if I just had the time, I would buy the EA college hoops version of this game (which I forgot the title), play for my alma mater --- Yale --- and then use that game to get me drafted to Live 2004! Talk about being crazy!
All the previous versions of Live had this feature implemented correctly --- your teammates would follow the play (sometimes, of course), pass the ball, drive to the basket, basically do everything that your computer opponent would do. The only version I remember an NBA Live game having the Player Lock feature which is as useless in this year's Live is the NBA Live 96 game for the old SUPER NINTENDO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM!
The next previous NBA Live's had this feature implememted in the game wonderfully (I don't know about Live 99 though --- can't remember).
I tried playing the 'normal' style of video game basketball where you control all five or your teammates and it really isn't just my thing.
After all, to each his own.
