NBA Live 14 To Support PS4’s Touchpad Controls, No Difference Between PS4 & Xbox One

Unlike NBA 2K14, EA Tiburon’s NBA Live 14 is looking to jump straight onto next generation platforms. However, according to Gary Patterson, senior creative director, there won’t be any difference between the two in terms of gameplay.

As Patterson stated, “All the game features will be the same for PS4 and Xbox One. It’s up to the gamer to decide which platform they’ll play NBA LIVE 14 on.”

There will be some implementation on additional features such as the PS4′s DualShock 4 touchpad and the Xbox One’s Cloud support. “We will support some basic functionality on the PS4 touchpad around team management. More details will be provided later. Regarding Xbox One’s cloud services, we do not currently support them. However, we will support the platform standard cloud syncing of your data.”

We also asked about the new BounceTek that NBA Live 14 implements, and how this would affect gameplay. “Basketball video gamers spend around 50% of a game dribbling a ball, yetthe mechanic of the dribble has basically gone unchanged since Gen1. This is more than a decade of old tech showing up in today’s games. The limitations of this tech are evident in visual and gameplay artifacts such as ball warping, half-dribbles and feet sliding; all of which contribute to unrealistic movement.

“Sports games are all about player movement and momentum, controlling it and exploiting it is how we balance the game, create depth but also create the amazing moments that make NBA basketball the spectacle that it is. With bounceTek, we are releasing the ball to physics for the first time ever in a basketball video game and in doing so creating the most authentic looking basketball dribble, with close to 1000 new animations, but more than that we are creating a system that mimics the nuanced movement, and thus depth, of real basketball, a system that we call ‘authentically responsive’.”

          In 3 years, only 1000 new animations? Doesn't 2K do 3500 a year??

Yeah it looks terrible and like plastic...if I could I would post a real Damian Lillard cyberface in her...but it's not of this game.

Too much talent on EA's team to still have cartoon faces...Especially on the PS4 and Xbox Ones architect of consoles.

I think they were referring to dribbling animations only.

Seriously with the dribbling still. Dribbling, ball handling was NEVER Live's problem. EA focuses too much of their marketing on **** nobody is concerned about. It's like Madden next gen. People are concerned about a million different legit gripes with Madden's gameplay and these dudes are talking about blades of grass in the trailers.

I hope Live don't end up like Riley Freeman. Got all the handles in the world, crossing everybody over whatnot, then when it came time to actually shoot the ball, dude couldn't do nothing but stand there.

Hit it in square on the head man.

Seems like all of this "bounce tech" and "blades of grass tech" are just big distractions.

Hell Madden early on this generation, had blades of grass too. I think it was 06 or 07.

My favorite thing is when they say they, "listened to the community." Which community is that? Because there has been a lot of suggestions here on OS, and I don't recall anyone clamoring for bounce tech.

                    Gameplay soon or bust.

Dribbling have been a problem just not from the controls. When you look at any b-ball to date you see the ball trying to find the animation. Rebounding also is a problem cause the ball magically floats to the closes player to the ball. So to say its not a problem is wrong but I do agree that they need to get off that and release more info on something else.

But wasn't that quote on dribbling from MONTHS ago? I think the writers just threw that in there to fill the piece out. I could be wrong. If I am, then, yeah, I'm with you.

His point was that on the list of issues Live really needed to address, in order of importance, dribbling wasn't even near the top.

But we can (it reflects on how smooth everything looks), that we cant count them one by one without help tho, is another thing ... the amount stated is interesting never the less, as (IMHO) Live has always lacked on that front.

However, there are as many taste as flavors, as for some it is the competition that has issues with it relying too heavily on animations.

Anyways, once (if for Live ?, at least for some, not me tho) they (both, Live and its competition) put out some worthy gameplay video, we shall see.
