My original prediction (expecting Live to at least be better than this) was that they would slightly improve next year but be playing too much catch up and by year 3 the game would be scraped but honestly with how bad of a reception this game has gotten I wouldn't be surprised if EA just axes the series after this year. Not worth investing in a game from a business standpoint if you can't even come close to competing with the competition. It would take YEARS for them to get where 2k is now and you know next year 2k is going to come heavy with the features & bringing back customization & control since they nailed the on the court so well.

I'm shocked Live is this bad.

If Live is back next year, we all know EA is all about making a profit, if this game fails to sell and based on all the negative reviews and the reaction to it on twitter, they will scrap it once again and start over.

I decided to read the BR review first, since they gave it the highest score. I generally respect the site, so I figured I would see what they had to say even though they aren't known as a videogame review site.

However, after I read this, I was pretty much done.
And I quote:

For as much criticism as the NBA Live series has endured in recent years, gameplay was never a major issue. I didn't expect the next-gen version to suffer in this area.

lolwhut? Gameplay has been THE problem for Live the entire past generation. NBA 2K didn't take over because it looked better, it took over because it played, you know, like a real basketball game.

I've tried to keep my prejudice in check leading up to the release of '14, refusing to form any opinion until the game was actually out in the wild. Believe it or not, even though I'm not an EA fan (especially Live) by any stretch, I wanted this game to be good. I am a firm believer that competition breeds better products.

However, with the reviews and gamer feedback and I've been reading, still looks like EA isn't there yet.

It's pretty sad that Live fans have had to wait 3 years for a game that looks like it should have come out on current gen systems.

even if i muted the ign review i almost puked all over my screen when i saw that sad excuse for a NEXT GEN game. Ea is done and needs to move on from basketball, they clearly don't have a grasp of how to make a good game

I asked him about it on twitter awhile ago and he made up some story about EA showing him a version of the game that was completely different from the final game.

Played the demo and have 1 word for it! Awful. I had hopes for this yrs Live and this is what they gave us? Seems to me that EA ONLY gives us quality when they have competition (like FIFA) they have no competition with Madden or Hockey and both games have stayed the same or have gotten worse. With Live being gone for so long and the competition they knew they had w/ 2k14 I'm surprised they ever released this game. What EA needs to do is take a page from The Show. Build a great base and add on from there, but until they do this I'm sure they will see there sales continue to go down and it will be us the buyers who will suffer!

The game is 10 years too late. It would have been great on the first Xbox and PlayStation. One thing the game does illustrate, is that a game all depends on the software and people making it. The Live team just didn't fully harness the power of the PS4/X1 and it makes both systems look weak when that's not the case.

The solution to EAs woes in basketball and football is clear. New software, new production teams. Start from sratch and stop using the same mold from the last 13 years.

I just used trade in credit - and I was curious. Not a lot of games coming out between now and spring time, so I figured what the hell. If it means anything, I received many texts saying "Oh you're the one who bought it"

It's like people expect the game to recognize that you're playing smart ball:

Calling the right plays, executing, getting good shots and making good use of your timeouts & subs.

If and only if you accomplish this you will unlock all the animations hidden to the vast majority of gamers. Your eyes will also slowly evolve and the graphics will upgrade.

I bit the bullet. $30 deficit to trade in NBA Live toward NBA 2K the next friggin' day. (GameStop is offering $22 in trade, another $10 toward NBA 2K13).

This site has given me so much over the years...so I beg you: please do NOT buy Live. While 2K isn't much improved over the last gen versions re: gameplay, it's absolutely magnificent as an example of next gen. It's gorgeous, and plays a solid game of ball (to include my beloved classic teams). This is the best we have...coming from a guy who adored NBA Live 10 and NCAA Basketball even more.
