So if this is your goal, shouldn't you be posting in the 2k boards? Or shouldn't you be siting examples from 2k to help live?

This thread I guess is for pointing out the right things live did and I don't think it is in any way intended to discredit 2k's game so chill.

you do realize every board about basketball video games thats not named easports or nba live. is a 2k board right?

you do realize i know and anyone with half a brain knows OS is heavily 2k slanted. has been for years even before live quit on us. lol.

So i'm on a 2k board, where 2k devs lurk. in addition i go to 2k boards and preach the same gospel. but i also use to ride live boards doing the same thing talking about all the things 2k does well and how they should attempt to mimic them in those aspects.

No, it's all based on parroting what their beloved EA Sports Marketing crew ****ted out back during the Elite hype train. Nobody said anything about animations around these parts until hockey guy and friends got on their developer diaries selling that no animations garbage to them, which of course these defend Live/EA to the death types have to run with since it was decreed from the mothership. That is of course unless the mothership changes it tune on it at a later time (see curve, learning for more info).

actually you're wrong. mike wang ratted out 2k when he switched sides. talking about the animations and what not.

then he jumped back on the 2k side as we know.

then live came out with elite(well didnt actually come out with it lol. but you get the point). thats when they start talking about trying to use real life physics and no more canned animations, especially the 2 player kind where you get stuck in animations and cant break away from them.

this caused a ripple effect. 2k then started touting the same thing for their next games "you can now break any dribbling animation, etc."

which says at some point you couldnt.

i know you will call me a liar. so google it. you'll find it when he first interviewed with the EA guys in 2009 or 2010 i believe. then you can find other articles and people commenting about him talking about 2k's animations taking away some of the control from the user.

Holy Jesus. This is where you've really lost it. So, for all of the growth that 2k has done and spawned, you say they are the best only by default. You clearly cannot acknowledge all that has been accomplished by any title except your beloved Live for which you had to create a thread bereft of substance. Amazing. Absolutely amazing. Here is a fact, king: the NBA 2K beat Live toe to toe. period. No exclusive deals. No unfair partnerships with leagues, networks, or hardware manufacturers. Toe to toe. That doesn't sound like "by default" to me.

I'm done with this. It's clear you've lost all objectivity.

i dont need to aknowledge what 2k has done. its enough of you guys in here doing that daily. its the only game we've had to play for years now live was trash before it go cancelled. live 10 was so so at best. 09 trash 09 trash. probably 07 was trash. elite had some nice ideas but never dropped so throw that in the garbage too. the next year that never came out, trash again for being absent lol. 2k has had all those years to be KING. i dont need to remind you everything 2k has done well. we all know it, you hear it on this board and others all the time. especially the first month or so when the game drops and the hype is still there.

but yes 2k is dwight howard. the best bigman in the nba by default. yes dwight can grab 20 rebs on some nights and still give you 20 points per game. he can get his team to the finals(once..thus far).

so he's no slouch. but he isnt great either. i like 2k. but i dont LOVE 2k. because 2k to me is not a GREAT game. its good in certain aspects. and others i hate it. but its definitely good enough to pick up and play.

Most if not all basketball video game forum will have a live and 2k section so what's your point?

Live has not released a decent game from 2007 to present (except for live 2010) so naturally, OS users will support the other game (2k). And yeah I have a fully functional brain.

It's okay to support live if you are having fun with it but saying that you won't settle for anything less than a great game and defend live afterwards is just really mind boggling.

Nothing wrong with this thread topic and initial post it's just that some statements you made just does not make any sense.

After a 2k gaming session with guys who know real basketball, I had one of them try out the Live demo for kicks.

He didn't have any reason to be biased, but he was... not impressed.

The he figured out quickly that he could hop step cheese. We ended up taking turns seeing just out ridiculously we could cheese-- he was circus hop layup cheesing with everyone including Andrew Bynum, and I had Tyson Chandler hop step cheese on multiple possessions. I even tried to play good positional defense to stop it which I have no problem doing in 2K. Even if the demo is on a lower difficulty level, the ability to cheese hard just shows how bad the foundational gameplay is.

A big problem is that the game has very few contact animations and close proximity doesn't change shots enough when hop step cheesing.

I will say that there are times the animations and general game flow actually look quite good if you squint a little especially with human users controlling both teams. The problem is, the controls actually feel terrible, sluggish, and stiff to the player controlling that team.

Anyway, Live has an extremely crude base to build off even if the final result is a horrible looking, terrible feeling, cheesy one dimensional game.

NBA Live

I spent this past weekend logging NBA Live hours. I logged about 12 hours of solid gameplay and here's my opinion.

The Likes:
1. Live is definately not as bad as everyone wants to make it out to be. There are times when Live really thrives. The defensive rotations are to die for (on All Star and Superstar) settings.

2. I love the adjustments that the AI makes. For example, they make different adjustments IN GAME that keeps you on your toes. (going over the screen vs. going under, vs. wedging hard etc.)

3. Court Q is awesome, and I found that teams generally play the way they're supposed to. I played vs. Golden State and they played run and gun style with Curry and Thompson jacking up 3's. I played against Denver and couldn't get a rebound because the Animal grabbed 15.



4. The ESPN presentation. The way, the crowd is in to this game, with Breen and Van Gundy making the calls is way awesome. Sure they can get repetitive at times, but honestly what sports game commentators don't?

5. Rosters and NBA Rewind. Having a game that is always updated is great. Hate the fact that sometimes I end up with the guy named point guard, but it's not a deal breaker. NBA Rewind is a pretty cool idea allowing you to replay games and change the outcomes, or make the achievements.

6. Soundtrack. The music on NBA Live is better than that of NBA 2k. Especially if you like underground rap.

The dislikes:
1. The hopstep is Flat out ridiculous in this game. Its a super power and allows you to get where you want to get to on the floor. That being said, the shot won't always go in, the way shots or blocked sure you'll get to the spot, but it doesn't always mean the shot is going on.

2. Graphics. This game definately doesn't look as good as it should look with it being next gen. In my opinion Gameplay is most important. The game can look great, but if it doesn't perform well I don't need it. Graphics is something Live will improve with going forward.



In conclusion, NBA Live has laid down the foundation for a very good in future years. People have to realize that it takes time to really make a good game. NBA Live doesn't have the budget of a Madden, Fifa, or even Battlefield, so it's they certainly have some challenges to work through. That being said this game to me is a breath of fresh air. Nba 2k has been the same game since 2k11, and they hit their stride in 2k12. 2k13 was the same game as the previous 2 but they let Jay Z produce the game musically. 2k14 is a step back in my opinion. It's pretty and looks good, but the series has seemed to take a step backward on the court going into next gen. As it stands, I think it just depends on your flavor and what each individual likes, but I don't understand the hate for NBA Live and why people talk down on other people because they like the game.


Overall I'd give NBA Live a 7.5 and I'd give NBA 2k a 7.8. But as an owner of both games, I think Live is more fun, and when played the right way more realistic. No matter what game you have people will be able to cheese, so I don't consider what you people call "sim" anymore. Sim can mean so many different things to so many people. It's a widely over used term amongst sports gamers.
