The "Big Patch" Hype: Your expectations

With the talk of the "Big Patch" I'm wondering if hopes and aspirations will be way overblown to what we'll actually get. Not wondering but pretty much dreading because I've seen this movie before and I can only predict what's going to happen if this patch doesn't turn "Live 14" into "Live 38: The Next Next 'Stuff you didn't even think possible' Gen BBall game of the century"

I for one am keeping my expectations realistic and just going with what they said will be done. I know they mention the graphics but to be honest , while looking for the upgrade they promised, I'm not looking for this to look like a PS22/Xbox24 title.

I wonder what people are looking for.

I'm looking for smoother animations, a step up in graphics, as far as what they can realistically do, sliders, smarter AI, better contact, maybe a little bit more commentary and a practice arena. I know that's asking for a lot but they made a lot of promises when they released that letter to fans. If they fail to address the issues they said they would, unfortunately, I won't be buying live next year.

I expect nothing more than that practice mode.

Have they said ANYTHING about "the big patch" or is this all just projection from OS members

I'm expecting better gameplay overall with smoother animations. As far as graphics, lighting needs to be tweaked even more and a lot of players could use modifications (faces, tattoos, skin tones, etc). It'd also be nice to see the additions of the Charlotte Hornets uniforms coming next year as well as an arena design for the Hornets, but that'll probably be in next years installment.

Here are the two official statements from Sean O'Brien, executive producer of NBA Live 14:

NBA LIVE 19 redefines the way you play a basketball game. 1v1 Everywhere featuring Real Player Motion gives you control in every possession, providing you the ability to change momentum in any game and dominate your opponent. Pursue basketball glory

This will allow us to update and add content such as gameplay tuning, new animations, audio and visual assets directly to you as they become available. This applies to cosmetic changes like new uniforms, shoes, accessories and so on, but also allows for ongoing gameplay and graphical improvements.

Now, I’m sure you’re also looking for an update on some of the bigger projects we told you last month we’d deliver – improving the way the game teaches the controls and on-boards new users, and more visual improvements. We continue to work on all these items and will update on progress early in the New Year. However, we will use this new LIVE update system to enhance your experience as we make improvements to the game.

It was important to get this first Content Update in place, to not only provide fans with new content and game improvements as we head into the holidays, but to also put in place the pieces of technology we need to roll out some of the new additions that will be coming next year. We’ve promised to deliver an improved experience, and feel this is the first step down that road. Rest assured there is still more to come, and we’ll have more info to share in the coming weeks.

Improvements on these fronts are also in development now for NBA LIVE 14. You will notice in the coming weeks and months that the game’s visuals and animation will improve significantly.

We’ve also gotten a lot of great feedback on LIVE Ultimate Team, and we’ve still got some big announcements and major additions coming down the road, so stick around for that.

They use the words " will improve SIGNIFICANTLY" and I hope they mean it. Let us pray

I don't expect much with the way EA handles this title. I hope they bring their best effort for Live 15 if it comes out. Frankly, I think they have taken way too long to come out with this update. This update should have been out sooner because this promise was made in mid November.

Re: The "Big Patch" Hype: Your expectations

They have hyped this patch up big time with the producers apology and constant title updates all to "prepare" for the big patch.

Plus they are hyping the face scans and saying these "will" be in NBA LIVE 14.

The patch should be great. There's no point even scanning in players faces and leaving the animations and cameras like they are. So, I expect a whole revamp of the graphics and animations.

Optimist in me = they have seen 2K struggle with bugs and online complaints and they realise they have a chance to capitalise. By the all star break this game will have a complete next gen overhaul and they will re hype it massively to capitalise while 2K is having issues. S

Pessimist in me = sales were so poor on this game and "returns" would have killed the series off. If this thing was returned by half the people who bought it, the series would be dead. So, to avoid mass returns they have basically said "wait, keep the game, new graphics are coming". It may well simply be a ploy to keep return figures down. By the time the patch drops, the resale value will be close to nothing and those of us waiting for the patch will have been conned with no time to recover.

At this stage, I think we should be optimistic. It is going to be huge. All those face scans + sliders + new animations + a practise court. Sliders alone would make a massive difference to this game.

Unfortunately, this is a very realistic and plausible scenario, especially given EA's track record.

There is a new USA character every week around here.

                      Hype.

Yes, it wouldn't surprise me if we get a late February post like "hey guys, the face scans couldn't be implemented into live 14 as we promised as some teams couldn't make it in time but they'll be there in live 15 for sure. Thanks for your support and we can't wait to show you what we have coming for you in live 15".

By late feb, they don't need to worry about returns. This game will have almost zero trade in value by then.

I am optimistic though despite this. You can't promote THIS:

I agree! They are scanning teams who come in Orlando to play the Magic. The Nba regular season ends in May, so I expect these scans to be used for Live 15.

I think they need to make significant improvements, not only for the sake of `4 but 15 as well. If they show that they can improve 14 and make it enjoyable, fixing the AI, game play and smooth animations then people will think "Hey, they said they would patch 14 and they did, im going to get 15"

If **** all happens then their going to be lucky to sell 200 copies of 15.

EA has a bad rep already, get 14 up to a respectable standing, repay the faith shown to those who bought it, then maybe they can restore some rep as the word will spread.

Im not sure on the face scans, but i think they make make a setup up in graphics, animations etc and get better contact in.
