I hope this isn't what O'Brien meant by "We’ve got a lot of plans around trial, and how we can get a lot of people a hands on trial of the game" in one of those FanSided articles.
The positive aspect of this for PS4 users is that we can see the game beforehand through streams and videos before its release date so we can make our minds earlier.

Xbox and EA have been working together since the launch of Xbox One, so it was an easy partnership

If there was one new release game that EA could afford to give EAAccess members on release day, it's called NBA Live 15.

Mark it down here. Makes perfect sense.

It's more on Sony than EA. Sony was offered the deal by EA, but Sony declined because they felt they would lose money on the deal and that it would not benefit them in the long run. Sony is already projected to lose 1.27 billion dollars on the year. PS4 for is doing great and the gaming division is exceeding expectations, but that's only one division. Sony has other countless divisions to worry about and it doesn't make sense to sign another contract with a Billion dollar loss being protected for the fiscal year. They need a new CEO, but that's just my opinion.
