    NBA Games and Player Lock

I was wondering why no one ever covers the player locking aspects of NBA games during reviews.

While I do understand that the majority of gamers probably use the traditional set-up, there are those of us that actually prefer to play one position, for one reason or another, and could use the input.

Even a brief statement about the player lock in NBA Live 2004 vs. NBA Live 2003, would have saved me $50, as the artificial intelligence lost the ability to shoot independently, which rendered player locking almost useless.

In fact, with the Exception of NBA Street, every NBA game has some form of player/position lock, and while it may seem trivial, I am sure some people would like some coverage of them.

Yeah but in a review there is usally a limited amount of space and the reviewers probably don't use player lock either.

That's what happened to me last year too and probably this year also. I bought Live 2004 last year, pre-ordered it in fact, and played about only 8 minutes of it. Why? I found out Player Lock was useless. So off to eBay that copy of Live went.

Don't worry about anybody not mentioning anything about Player Lock. Just buy the game and if you don't like it, sell it on eBay or to a friend. I'm sure you wouldn't have any trouble selling a game that's been out only for a few days.

Sorry if this is dumb, but what does player lock do. It locks you into a certain position the whole game? So your complaint is that the comp. controlled players suck and wont do things they should? Thanks for the knowledge!

Yeah, I think it locks onto a certain postion. Its dumb though. only controlling one player while the CPU does everything else

I can respect your opinion, but honestly, without player lock, the computer still does all the work.

It runs the plays for you, gets you in position to block the shot, and basically just makes things easier. All you have to do is take the shot.

With a position locked, I have to run the correct route during a play. I have to keep my man from scoring. I have to make sure that I am doing what I am supposed to be doing for a given position, cause if not, the opposing player will torch my butt.

The reason I want the computer to takes it's own shots: Realism.

In real life I don't control my teammates or their shot selection. With player lock, I can make the pass to an open team member, and let him shoot, pass, drive, or whatever. To me, that's reality. To others, maybe not. I'm just looking for a game that allows me to play as close to the real thing as I can.

Also when playing with friends we usually player lock on a position as a way to track stats and keep it simple. I'm in control of one guy and so is everyone else.
