Is there something wrong with shooting?

I can't shoot the ball in this game. I'm playing it again for the first time in a few months and I don't remember it being like this. I can't hit anything but layup so. Nothing from mid range goes in and definitely nothing from 3.

Is anyone else experiencing this or am I just that bad at the game?

i played my first game online in 3 months ad i twas a laggy mess. but when i found out the lag timing, i was mying my shots.

the midrange never existed to begin with lol but the 3PT game is hit or miss now.

You have to be wide open hit a shot ...(gotta cheese some pnrs cause your chances of hitting a shot while anyone is in your vicinity is slim to none) or settle for layups


Its not you ...its the last patch they made that has made it unplayable

I really hope this is fixed for 16 because its unplayable for me like this.

Practice mode is your friend and the midrange exist. Just like IRL only a few nba players are good at them.

shooting is easy to me, on and off line

you just have to take good shots

even been hitting a few contested shots

I picked this game up on release and although it wasn't perfect, I thought shooting was somewhat ok (apart from buckets being either swishes or total bricks, nothing in between)

I started a dynasty for fun & giggles again yesterday and I can't make anything... I think I was 3 for 24 on three balls or something...

For instance, I had Caron Butler coming off a screen and he was ready to catch the ball at the three point line while his man was still getting crushed from running into Drummond. There's no way this shot should say 'contested' when I'm already letting it fly and his opponent is still running towards me and jumping for his life to catch up to me. C'mon EA...

I honestly think I would play this more during the summer if it played more like the game we saw on release (flaws and all). Now it's just a brickfest, while I'm still doing the right thing basketball wise...

Any tips?

I mean, of course a contested shot should be harder to go down, but NBA players DO make them. The code shouldn't be "either you're completely open or the lid is completely sealed", that's just BS...

Yeah, this is basically the same exact thing that's happening to me. I want to like this game. In fact I really do like it, but I just can't shoot and its making me want to stop playing it.

You aren't bad at the game. The Devs have patched the shooting mechanics multiple times. It's easier shooting 3's or driving inside, but the mid range game is completely nonexistent. You have to be open for the shot to get a clean one. LOL

Here are 3 advices I can give....

1. Learn how to create space

2. Master the step back

3. Create a Rising Star Player who is a PG or SG, try to play as many games as you can in that mode so you can get the dribbling mechanics down, and you will learn how to break down a defender in no time.

I never said it was easier, but I hit 3's at a higher clip because I know how to get open. Setting Screens, crossing over my defender and knowing when to shoot. People just play the game thinking they can shoot in a defenders face all the time. NBA Live needs to be tweeked heavily in the shooting department, but there are ways around everything. Trust me on that.

The key is to shoot semi contested shots or shots with small windows especially if the guy you're using has shot creator or deadeye . Idk why those shots go in more than wide open shots

As mentioned above, mid range has a lot to do with who you are shooting with. Its one of the things I like about LIVE 15 as I feel they do a good job keeping the elite shooting success, to the elite NBA players.

These are some things that have worked for me. Shooting has gotten easier since release, but the ability to create necessary space and shoot was always there.

When coming off screens and picks try to catch and shoot in rhythm, with your feet properly planted, and your percentage of makes should increase. Sometimes it will be catch and shoot, other times it will be catch-heartbeat-shoot. Spacing and creating space is key in Live 15, but not as much as getting feet properly set in the shot animation, which will make shots with less space more successful. "Dead-sticking" (release the left stick just before the shot) off the dribble move, screen, or pick should help.

In addition, strategically using the "Y" step back button for step-back gathers in situation, does help a lot for creating space and getting mid-range jumpers in rhythm, with the right players (key component). Check the mid-range rating of the players in question.

Lastly if/when you get better at getting your defender leaning away or playing off-balance defense at the time of the shot, even your "contested" shots will go in more. Everyone's play style is different, as some gamers do and see things others have not in Live 15, but ultimately if you keep playing and stay dedicated to getting better, you WILL eventually find your stroke, as the tools for success are all there.

Yeah I tried to play this last night for the first time and I went 4/32 in the first half. Needless to say I was mad and didn't finish the 2nd half...
