NBA Live 16 Mid-range game feedback

Okay, so there has been a lot of talk about the mid-range game in Live 16 spread out amongst threads, so I think it would make sense to organize that stuff into one thread instead.

The next post will have a list of every NBA team along with their 16-23 foot shot attempts per game in 14-15 and their overall shot chart. If you want to compare your in-game results to what's listed here, the best way to do that is:

After a game, go to the Shot Display menu. Press R1/RB to select a team, then use the dpad to highlight the option for "All Shots." Tap down on the dpad once to make it display all 2 point shots. Then, count the number of 2 point shots that aren't in the paint (for shots where the circle is partially in the paint, count it as a paint shot if it looks like more than half the circle is in the paint) and compare it to the real-world data posted here.

If you aren't playing 12 minute quarters, you'll have to do some math to see if the numbers match up. For 6 minute quarters, simply multiply by 2. For 5 minute quarters, multiply by 2.4, 8 minute quarters 1.5 and so on. Report back with team, number of mid-range shots using this classification system adjusted to 48 minute games and a picture of the shot chart if possible.

Re: NBA Live 16 Mid-range game feedback

This is in order of most attempted midrange shots per game to the least. All shot data via Basketball-reference, shot charts via statmuse. All numbers rounded to second decimal.

    New York Knicks
    20.18

    Los Angeles Lakers
    19.86

    Charlotte Hornets
    19.78

    Minnesota Timberwolves
    19.46

    Washington Wizards
    19.05

    Indiana Pacers
    18.47

    Los Angeles Clippers
    18.07

    Boston Celtics
    16.97

    Portland Trail Blazers
    16.33

    Milwaukee Bucks
    15.82

    Dallas Mavericks
    15.62

    Sacramento Kings
    14.61

    Memphis Grizzlies
    14.76

    Oklahoma City Thunder
    14.32

    Orlando Magic
    14.25

    Miami Heat
    14.20

    New Orleans Pelicans
    14.00

    Brooklyn Nets
    13.61

    Chicago Bulls
    13.51

    Golden State Warriors
    13.40

    Denver Nuggets
    13.18

    Phoenix Suns
    13.13

    Utah Jazz
    12.75

    Atlanta Hawks
    12.34

    San Antonio Spurs
    12.37

    Toronto Raptors
    12.16

    Detroit Pistons
    10.99

    Cleveland Cavaliers
    10.19

    Philadelphia 76ers
    9.42

    Houston Rockets
    5.67

Some things to keep in mind: this is not pace-adjusted, so teams that shoot more shots will naturally have more midrange shots than others, but there were only a couple of teams that moved around this list after I sorted it by attempted shots instead of the ratio of midrange shots to all shots. For "midrange," I used 16-23 non-3-point shots, which is the common definition. There might be some counting discrepancy since a shot from just outside the paint on either baseline is technically not from 16 feet, but this is a quick and dirty survey of the shots I think you guys are looking for. My testing is going to be on the lower end, as teams like the Sixers and Rockets should barely be shooting these shots at all. If they are, then that to me is a more harmful thing than teams like the Knicks shooting a couple fewer per game.

      Good thread.

Per our conversation, I think it would be beneficial to note the situations these shots were taken in as well if you can.

I still maintain that Synergy should be the resource within the game that fixes this issue without any slider edits.

Synergy is responsible for uploading the DATA into NBA Live for individual shots tendency.

Even if there is no DATA to upload for the upcoming the season this year EA should still be utilizing the DATA from the previous NBA season to render SIM results.

Not sure if people are complaining about the mid range game buy I have little problem with it, you just have to fade more. Which is cool.

I'm beginning to think that Synergy is nothing more than "smoke & mirrors."

I haven't seen this so-called data have any impact on the Live series for the past 3 years.

Think most have issues with CPU shooting enough of them.

I swear pro am plays like a different game though. I see nothing but variety playing against them.
