The controls info in the game says to press square when near the basket to perform a layup.

If it was that easy...

Seems like the jumper animation takes precedent. If there is a trigger zone for layup around the basket I have no idea where it is.

Unobstructed to a side of the hoop within 6 feet moving towards it with momentum should trigger the higher percentage layup. Instead it becomes a spot up 6 foot jumpshot. Or 5 foot, 4 foot, 3 foot, etc.

I will answer my own question.

You can't.

You cannot choose just to do a basic fundamental off the glass layup. There is no button combo for it. Just spent 30 minutes solo in the learn live gym and nothing causes a layup to occur on command.

In fact, the lay in animation precedes the lay up animation in the animation hierarchies. With dunks 65% of the time, lay ins 20% stop and shoot odd looking 2 foot jumper 14%.

I say that because 1 time I did a lay up. Totally random and it came out of no particular positioning or button press.

Logically you would think if you attack the far edges of the backboard you would get a layup but repeated attempts at that proved that thinking wrong.

I guess layups are boring and you never see them happen in the nba.

I think you can only do that in franchise.
