However, with all the crashes & bugs, unable to edit the rosters(seriously???)
and not so many rookies in the game, I will go back to 2K next year
I never had mid-game crashes in 2k or EA`s Madden.
In live I did 2 games today both crashes in 4th Q. thats after the update.

btw, I am live fan since NBA LIVE 95(!) and I only switch to 2k in 2009, after the disappointment I had from Live 08. than back to live in 10. very disappointed. since then only 2k until this year.
I totally agree with you. 2k as package (options/graphics/fan base) is really a good game but the control of players is wonky and always has been. I describe it as clunky or clumsy....mix in the insanely complicated controls scheme or more specifically stick/button combinations to pull off moves and for me it's a turn off. Also, my experience with the online functionality of 2k has always been a mess. I am impressed with this years Live though, I bought it instead of 2k after playing the demo. I think EA is close....I also think to grow their player base and make a dent in 2k they have sell their game for like $30 and get more people exposed to the game. Just bite the bullet one year and get themselves back in the game. Right now at $60 I don't blame the basketball fans for choosing 2k...at reduced price more people would take a chance on Live or buy it even if they buy 2k. Right now they're trying to compete on the same level with 2k and to be honest, they're too far behind in the court of public opinion, however I don't think they their game is that far behind...

are ppl really going by sales numbers right now? That is so laughable when the holiday season is just starting. People will start buying games soon. Not everyone wants to buy a basketball game when they first come out when the season didn't even start. I want to get Live but I'm holding off until Dec...don't want to own two basketball games at full price with annoying issues.

there budget is low, but that isnt an excuse to have obvious glitches in games, seems like companies nowadays dont do much testing in there games or something, or it downloads wierd onto consoles and the glitches come up randomly

Yet their competition sold 4 million in one week!!!

I see a problem here..Live has been such a distaste in so many people's minds that they have no urgency nor respect for it.

And here we are 2 weeks and 3 days later and I doubt if they've even sold 20 thousand copies of Live 16. (That is sad)

I agree the game is fun, but so much is bad about it, it's not denying why it continues to be the step child of EA Franchises and the loser every year against the competition.

EA needs a new vision on what makes a real basketball game and they need to find that vision quick...Forget about Live 10, Elite 11, The debacle of 13,14,15.

And really come up with a fresh new look, sound and feel of a basketball game.

In regards to sales I think what appollooff320 is trying to convey is that several people are waiting to purchase this game, in general or especially in addition to 2k, during the holiday season when there are bound to be discounts for the game. This has been clearly indicated on this board by various community members. I've also seen the same comments on Youtube etc. For many, that just makes more sense at this juncture. I myself have expressed this line of thinking for some time now and do expect more of a surge in sales during this period. All things being said, it sounds like EA has budgeted or planned for less than stellar sales figures regardless as WTF has stated. Would like to know what the sales tally numbers will reveal at the end of the day, but if investors are already on board with the projections then it is what it is. It may be more of a problem if sales fell way off expectations or what had been forecasted, but then again it may not. In sum, I truly expect EA to start looking for a real upswing in sales starting next year when they would have had the opportunity to truly give the community what they've been seeking in regards to game options as well as fleshing out the various modes including tightening up Pro Am, and perhaps adding new modes, etc.

Sorry but Shadows killed Apolloof's excuse, and that what it was an excuse. I highlighted the key excuse of his quote, because the other NBA game had sent out 4mil copies to distributors in a release week. This side of the forums is excuse central.

                        1.
First excuse was people are going to write off Live 16, because of past games. Atleast try the demo and then make an opinion was said.
People tried the demo and some did/didn't like it. Which leads to:

                        2.
Wait for the Day 1 patch people, and then make an opinion.
The day 1 patch will add the rookies, blah blah blah, and fix the glitches in the demo etc. The glitches in the demo still made it to retail version. People did that which leads too:

                        3.
You're playing the demo (patched), and not the full retail game
So now this gets thrown out there by the struggle Live apologists which leads to this:

                        4.
Im giving the devs the benefit of the doubt, Live 17 will be when its able too compete.
So struggle Live apologists were saying when 14 was released that Live 16 will be the game that gives 2k a run, and now.. its wait for Live 17? That little stinging feeling in your chest is where your pride hurting a bit.

To not like the game is fine, but it is certainly not a bad game. It plays very well, is now the leader in graphics AND court audio atmosphere and has a super addictive Pro Am online mode.

Live is not selling well. We dont have Live 16's numbers, but if the past 2 years (using VGC) is an indication, the sales combined for Live 14, 15 and 16 will total close too or a little over 1mil copies. 2k is using sales numbers right now so that makes this excuse moot. On the other hand for 2k14-16 would be close to 20m. Not that I want to get into comparing etc.

                        6.
Size of the dev team/budget excuse..
Sean O'Brien talked about this for Live 15. They invested into increasing the team for 15, and put money into the project. Their ROI for Live is underwhelming..

Yeah, big. It's a big investment. EA's really, you know, we're not making much money on this game. And we're spending a lot of money. We hired three engineers, and the guy who runs gameplay, Connor Dugan, who most recently was on UFC for a minute and SSX. He was a line producer for SSX and worked with me on basketball for a long time. Prior to that, Ryan Santos was a guy who worked on NBA Street and NBA Live up to 10, then he left to work at Blast Radius for a while and then the Jordan account. A real basketball head. He's a designer so he does a lot of different things across our game.

                        Anyways carry on..
NBA Live is the epitome of Cancel Culture..

I completely disagree. EA was on the right track with Live 10 but poor sales led them to try and come up with a new look and feel called NBA Elite. That was a disaster. Not only was the game considered terrible and got awful press from the Jesus video it put them back years in the competition with 2K.

Let's face it. They are climbing a monstrous hill in battling 2K but rebooting again will just put them further behind. You said it yourself - the game is fun. Simply continue to evolve and improve what you have. The fact 2K sold 4 million this year already is actually a good thing for next year as people may want something different. I see next year as the huge year for live where they may just shut down if sales are bad.

The live team does shoot themselves in the foot with terrible design decisions like no sliders until now and no roster edits. No good reason for this. But the core gameplay is fun for me. A price cut like 2K5 used would be a smart decision. Sell the game at $40 to entice people. You need to grab market share. I don't think a reboot is a good idea.

I think if 17 fails to capture market share and they still want an NBA game to succeed they should go back to Street.

Street 2 was the most amazing game back in the day. The graphics, the animations were ahead of the sim games.

Less players on the court, double the quality of the models to insane levels, expand on their pro-am model, capture the hip hop culture that both games seem to target, not worry about the shortcomings of their sim aspects.

Re: Will there be a Live 17?

Unfortunately, sales numbers are the bottom line.

Patches cost a lot of money to get uploaded (i think PS is $40 000 per patch?) and also manpower etc to make...

This game is selling terribly, yet again.

And this leads to it being poorly supported, yet again...as no company can justify continual support once a game fails to make money.

That leaves those of us who bought it frustrated, yet again.

2K's sales figures are stunning...4 million in the first week. That is why they can have devs all over the web, patches uploaded, constant improvements.

I do not know what the future is for LIVE. Personally, I have bought them all and 16 is probably the most dissapointing for me as I genuinely thought the third year on next gen would be the breakthrough year.

But really, it is not much more than 15 with a great patch. And some areas, like post play, are actually worse.

Dynasty, season mode, post play, defense, no editing, we are going to be stuck with outdated rosters yet again with no way to edit trades etc when they happen...it is just really disappointing.
