I dont think its about product quality at this point it's all about name and reputation, NBA Live has a bad name reputation and NBA 2K has a stellar name and reputation, reputation and name is more important than product quality and NBA Live has a bad rep and name, once your rep and name is ruined its almost impossible to come back from.

For example, take Tide detergent, im sure theirs other detergent out just as good if not better, but because they have a good reputation they will always be the leading detergent, unless they completely drop the ball.

If NBA Live wants to build their rep back up they are going to have to make a great product and sell if for way below the market price, they are either going to have to release it for free or sell for for a greatly reduce rate, say $29.99 or $19.00.

When I think NBA Live, I don't think about major gameplay advancements. I think of the fun times I had but at least when I was buying the series regularly, there weren't a lot of advancements on the court. I played from LAKERS VS CELTICS on pc through 06 I believe. Each year, the major selling points were superficial. One year it was "we've got Horace Grant's goggles & Kevin Johnson's goatee". SHOWDOWN had canned signature moves. There was VIRTUAL STADIUM. I remember one year, the big addition was facial expressions. Everyone had these angry faces when they dunked & everyone chewed gum like cows grazing in the grass. One year they added the all star activities. The game was fun & they were obviously limited for years by technology but it was years before a simple post up move was added. I just think during Live's prime years, the changes were fairly simple. The first time I played 2k, it was pretty slow but you could see they were addressing player movement a bit. EA didn't do a good enough job of working on gameplay that you'd see & feel on the court. The past 5 years they've been playing catch up. How many years was MADDEN mediocre before you finally saw real improvements. EA seems to have difficulty with improving gameplay depth.

NBA street exactly where they can find their niche. Unless they pull a Houdini and somehow put out a classic game next year they've completely lost this console generation. They need to do something completely different from NBA 2K to bring some attention to any Basketball title they release. NBA street/Jam would do that for them. Not to mention all us old school gamers who miss and remember these games. There is a whole younger generation that has never played a NBA Street game and may not know what NBA street even is. Add an online mode to that and I think they could at least put out a game that most would buy in addition to 2k.

It will be a novelty game people will buy and forget. This is a new generation of gamers and fantasy sports doesn't hold their attention .

There's no base to that for this genration. No arcade sports games have really hit the league. But something arcade and highly addictive could work. Just look at rocket league.

I'm not saying they'd go on to sell 2k type numbers. But it would offer an alternative to 2k rather than directly competing with them
