Re: Live 16 Animations or Lack thereof

This is where I would like to see the touted physics supply the proper animation

    https://vid.me/hb5o

Initial contact is good, but the game doesn't recognize my defenders existence. Even if I can't register much of a contest since I'm a smaller defender, he should at least 'feel' me

It appears it did recognize your position and physics, and you had good position until you reached in, then your feet were never set, and the CPU got by you easily with size and strength. The statistically right outcome of the physical mismatch. I'm calling it legit. Even if there is no "connect" animation the physics are there.

I do see what you mean about blending and missing animations. That could take us the direction of heavy, 2 player contact animations to connect the defensive positions on the floor, and that's unrealistically overdone defensively in another game, and it also wouldn't be physically accurate, since you gave up position with slight movement (reach in, feet shuffling) to a bigger stronger player.

What I think should have happened is that the shoulder charge should have left you too off balance to reach (you are giving up 75lbs), and had a connecting animation preventing the reach (charge, knockdown, or backwards stagger?), which may also have tipped the defender on the weak side (Jordan) to show earlier.

I wouldn't have been mad if you stole that either as he is dribbling the ball at your shoulder height.

Re: Live 16 Animations or Lack thereof

I've never seen a player in Live dive for a loose ball but you will see that in 2K. Was that in prior editions of Live?

Other things I don't see are passing ratings. Bad passers can make any pass like anyone else in Live.
I rarely see any blocks on the perimeter. Stealing the ball is 99% a steal off a pass, not picking anyone's pocket either. Just some things that need further attention.

The scenario in your third paragraph would be ideal I think. I'm fine with the fact he recovered from the initial bump and changed the direction. In fact he had the advantage on me at that point, Enes decided to do a backwards dribble for some reason and reset....so I was definitely in position after that. Ill ignore the warping that occurred since that happens...but it definitely shouldn't have been a clean rise to the basket.

One of the biggest misconceptions about Live is that there aren't any 2 man animations, there are plenty. We aren't completely out of the woods yet there as far as basketball gaming goes. Lacking animations to counter the offense isn't any more realistic than overreliance on them tbh....I think there needs to be a balance there. I appreciate what they are trying to do physics wise but there are still a bit too many misses to replicate the physicality of the game. Arm detection is on point, even in the video, it has been since '14....we just have to get the rest of the body involved- they've been struggling with that.

            .

I remember capturing this from the demo:

So unless it was removed I'm pretty sure they do

I have actually seen this occur quite often though and just witnessed an example yesterday that looked quite impressive. The improved ball physics came into play during this particular sequence and i must say it played out in a very realistic fashion.

The reason you don't see this in LIVE as often is because of "spacing, whether through physics or positioning, and currently in 2K the defense can knock the ball loose with little to no effort, by just by running into your ball handler at times, so you will naturally get more opportunities to experience loose balls. 24 posted one from the demo so its in there.

Only the best defenders will "pick a pocket" consistently, especially if there is a big mismatch or you stand in from spamming dribble moves against a good man defender, and its the same for blocks, its tied to ratings and personnel, so not every player can do it. Bad passers in the game are bad. If you play with a bad team once in awhile (I play with the worst in the league) if you aren't already, you'll see a lot of frustrating moments that separates the good teams/player from the bad very easily.

Last week I broadcast a 3hr session (archived) that has all of the stuff you mentioned, happening from game to game, but not in every game played. I plan on streaming more for critiques and feedback, as i think the only way to get LIVE out there is showing off some "well played"(TBD) games.

Nice shot of Waiters @24th, but I can't wait to see him in a 76er uniform next year, lol.

I see picked pockets a lot in this game, especially by myself. The steals from passes and even deflections are very dynamic thanks to the physics.

Likewise, almost every game there are dives for loose balls going out of bounds. There's even mid air jump and saves.

In terms of blocks on the perimeter, I don't know if I've ever seen one but I'd rather that than the mess that was Live 14. You could average 30 blocks a game, no joke in 14. Blocks and the animations and physics behind them are almost perfect in 16. Probably some of the best any bball game has created really, especially with the head and arm tracking of the ball.

Another reason you don't see many live balls is because live restricts your ability to swipe the passing lane on command.....I believe this is done to prevent the engine form going off the rails....but it also takes away from the organic nature of games IMO. A lot of these slow, floaty passes could be easily knocked out do the air if they allowed. Same thing with the football passes online.

What they have added this year are the automatic interceptions if your in front of the pass to make up for it...I have a love/hate relationship with those...

Yeah I feel the same way. Sometimes i love the fact that bad passes are picked off automatically. Other times it pisses me off because there's no skill involved when someone does it to me.
