So, hold on, you can't make a trade if you're already over the salary cap?

I'm using the Toronto Raptors and in year one, I've tried a couple times to sign free agents and/or make a trade. However, the same answer comes back: "You're over the salary cap, so we can't do this trade/deal." I've tried to match salaries and it didn't help. Am I doing something wrong?

It really sucks too, 'cause I was trying to get another big man for my frontcourt and - wouldn't you know it - Bosh & Marshal are out for 3 weeks & Aroujo gets injured, but isn't out. Man, I really wanted Brendan Haywood or Brian Skinner!

EDIT: Oh yeah, FYI, I'm about 16mil over the cap (ouch!)

you can trade as long as the salaries are close to matching up(there is a pop up screen about it when you go into the TRADE screen). If you get the salaries to match you can make trades reguardless of where you are as far as cap room. hit X(xbox) in the trade screen to see salaries.

Yeah, I thought I did that, haha... I tried to get Brendan Haywood from Washington for Michael Curry. Curry's salary was at 1.1mil & Haywood was something like 988k. I'm not too good at math, but I'm pretty sure that's within 20% =) hrm, I'll give it another shot though, I really, really need another big man!

yea, that should have worked, don't know why it didn't. i've made a handful of trades witht he Magic who are also quite a bit over the cap. don't know why it wouldn't let you do that trade....

You're telling me! If they'd simply said "not interested" I'd understand and move on... but no salary cap room? grr.....

EDIT: Unless they were lying to me... stoopid Wizards....

that means that they don't have any cap room. didn't you say that your guys had a higher salary than theirs?

Yes, he did have a slightly higher salary, but it was within 20%, or at least I think it was within the 20%
