The Fast Break Solution (straight from the CPU 2 U)!

Here's the deal I discovered with the fastbreaks (at least keeping lead players on the break from stopping after catching the rock)! I think this is Huge, but it takes practice:

Frustrated with my own fast breaks, it suddenly hit me that the CPU didn't seem to have any trouble with theirs.

First off, I decided to run a CPU vs. CPU game, with two teams that have heavy fast-break ratings. (Press the shoulder buttons (XBOX) during team selection screen to see fast-break ratings.) I chose Warriors vs. Kings. Then I sat back and watched/observed very carefully the way players animated during fast breaks on lead passes and just why the CPU was successful running the breaks. It was my faint hope to mimic whatever the CPU was doing. What would finally give me a clue to the CPU success would be the player animations. Did players that caught the lead pass just go forward in stride? Did they do that catching over the shoulder animation? NO. Over the course of that game, 90% of the time, players who caught passes on the fast break would SPIN as they caught the ball, then finish their move to the basket.

Next I asked myself, "What makes players in this game spin, especially while catching the ball?" And the only thing I could thing of (after some thought) was freestyle.

So I played around a game and this is what I finally did. On fastbreaks, right after hitting the lead pass button I automatically tapped the freestyle button forward, in the direction of the basket. Sure enough, as the player caught the ball, they would be in the spin motion, and would keep moving, not stopping after the catch. The only draw is that A) on press camera hitting the freestyle button in the direction of the basket involves hitting it an a diagonal angle, and when you fail to hit it just right, the player spins and catches not always going directly towards the hoop and B) I think it looks sorta ugly compared to just catching it in stride and C) it's hard to hit the lead pass button and freestyle joystick and direction joystick in a 1-2-3 manner (while holding down turbo all the while) that always takes you straight to the hoop (and not a little bit off to the side somewhere).

Well, no more players stopping when they get balls on the fast break, and no more hoping that I get a catching over the shoulder animation after throwing the lead pass. But this will take practice and may just be the Fast Break Fix people were looking for. Take in mind that it also may be easier to execute depending on the camera angle you use.

    TRY IT NOW!

Step 1: Hit lead pass button

Step 2: Hit freestyle button immediately afterwards (before lead player catches ball/while ball is still in flight) in direction of hoop.

Step 3: Hold direction button towards the basket so that when the player comes out of the freestyle/spin animation, his momentum carries him towards the hoop.

He just got Isomotion and Freestyle confussed, calm down people.....

but that is interesting, I noticed that the spin is the best way to get around a defender in a one on one fastbreak. I will try this, thanks for the help.

Oops, like many gamers, I read alot about both games and mixed up the terms. What I mean is the right joysick (on XBOX) that allows you spin, dribble and make other evasive moves. Yes, it is called freestyle.

"what the hell? isomotion is not in live.. and secondly 2k5 has no fastbreak issue.."

Yes, I should have typed freestyle and I am referring to fast break issues in live, not 2K5.

                    Sorry for the confusion.
