Basically these are my questions, how is gameplay? Do teams play to their strengths? How is the stat tracking and simulated stats? How is the franchise mode?

Just need some advice
I bought ESPN NBA 2K5 and I think it is a fun game, but it seems to have som bugs in it. Also I have a hard time controlling the guys with the ball. I am looking to play a franchise and was wondering what guys would suggest for games, I haven't bought an NBA Live game in a long time, but I would be interested in checking this out.

Teams play to their best players by default. Play against the Lakers and Kobe will take most of the shots, ect...you can go in when you start each game and change the opposing team's offensive style and it helps make it even more realistic. There are sets that get the PF up near the top of the key, so pick that when you play the Kings, Spurs or Wolves to get Webber, Duncan and KG the ball where they can pull jumpshots or dribble in a back it down. The only problem I have had is that in SOME games a big time PF or C doesn't get as involved as much as they should against me. Guards and SFs always seem to get a lot of shots, but some games a guy like Duncan won't get the ball much for a half or so, it usually ends up alright though. Just a little annoyance, definitely not a big deal though.
Stats are good, no complaints.
Franchise mode is very nice. some of the best points are: in-season draft scouting, off-season one on one workouts with rookies(before the draft, to see how they actually play before drafting them), a good FA signing period and good training. THe only problem I have is with presentation. In the FA signing all players are listed on one screen, you can sort by position or ratings or age, ect, but no matter what, all 100+ FAs are on the same page, no separate pages for each position. just annoying because i don't think they even need to think about adding separate screens for each position, hard to believe they don't have something like that.... but overall, it's presentation is toned down from last year(no cutscenes or anything) but the actual features are really nice.
hope that helped a little, I've been a 2K guy for a while, but I am really happy with Live this year, definitely the right game for me. -

Re: Just need some advice
I think I am going to pick it up, I like ESPN, but I feel the same about this as I do about NFL 2K5. The game is great and is fun to play, but there are cetain elements that just bug me too much. For example the time-out bug. I get drawn into the $19.99 price tag, but there are obvious errors that just take away from the whole experience for me.
I just want solid gameplay and a good base for the game, the extras are nice, but not at the expense of any realism.Comment

Originally posted by CM1847Gameplay is best described as fun. I also hadn't owned a Live game in a LONG time, but I played 2004 some and it was fun, but obviously flawed. 2005 is fun, and flawed, but the flaws are smaller and don't effect the overall gameplay much.

Re: Just need some advice
I am sick of how ESPN has been putting out half-*** games and I get sucked into buying them for $19.99.
All there games have great potential, but just don't finish the job.
NFL -- All the INT's killed it for me plus the draft bug
NHL -- probably my favorite out of all the games, but the freezing and the free agent problems kills that game.
NBA -- Also a good game, but the TO bug and the lack of player control, especially on defense is a killer for me.
I am not one to complain ever, and I can usually deal with the bugs but I just don't understand how they miss this stuff. That would be like selling a car and the radio not working, a small glitch and you could get by without a radio, but you would hope the manufacturer would see the radio isn't working and would fix it. By them putting this game at $19.99, I bought into the hype, but they have lost my business for a long time, I am not a huge EA fan, but at least they put out games that work.Comment

Re: Just need some advice
let me add that this game is the first one i've played with realistic shot percentages. i'll be playing and be getting pissed because nothing's going in and when i check the % it's like 42-45% which is pretty realistic. great game.Comment
