    Question to Lynnsanity (Player Lock)

Does your CPU teammates finally shoot the ball themselves or do they just still keep passing the ball back and forth like last year's Live? Thanks.

        They shoot on their own.

            Thanks, MCGR8D4DPOY.

I'm SO curious to know because last time I played a Live game was back in early 1999 when I was playing Live '98! Last year I FINALLY bought a PS2 and Live 04 and was SADLY disappointed with the uselessness of the Player Lock mode. Immediately sold both on eBay. I'm hoping this year's version is different and so far, based from your reply, that seems to be the case.

I miss playing video games... being a working adult s*cks!

There is a player lock, but the computer AI is flawed. Your teammates will take shots, but only if you give the ball to them and let them go to work for themselves.

If you have a computer teammate leading the break, you have to press the dunk or shoot button, or he will run out of bounds. There are some times when the computer will finish on a fast break, but I can not tell you exactly when those times are, as I have just taken to "helping" them finish.

Player lock is ok, though. Not as good as the Inside Drive PL, but decent enough to actually help you out if you give them the time. I would rent this game first, and go from there.

                    Thanks for the reply, Lynsanity.

I can't rent this game because I don't have a PS2 (yet) that's why I'm trying to figure out whether I would like this game or not. See, I only play with Player Lock on and I don't want to happen what happened to last year with Live 04.

It doesn't really bother me OCCASIONALLY forcing the CPU to shoot but if I'm doing it, like, 95% of the time then that's a different story. But, again, this isn't the case right? Or I don't want the CPU passing the ball the ball back and forth between the PG and one other player until the shot clock runs out.

                    Comments?

Re: Question to Lynnsanity (Player Lock)

If the clock is running down, force the shot. The AI doesn't seem to take those shots. It's probably something the developers put in, as I can see some ppl getting upset if the CPU took it's own buzzer beaters, as opposed to giving the player that option.

A typical game for me involves me forcing the computer to take 3's as I pass the ball around. If the computer gets the ball on a turnover and has a clear lane, it will go for the layup or dunk.

If you get the CPU the ball and into an isolation, it will work on breaking it's man down.

If the CPU works on it's man, in the post, it will try to find a way to get in for a dunk, or go for a fading jumper.

I have not tried plays for 3 pointers, etc, but I have a feeling that the computer will take shots if it is the focal point of a play.

All in all, I think you would be able to have fun with this. I did get a bit frustrated at first, but after a while I got used to it.

The key is figuring out when the computer will, and won't shoot. The fact that it will take some shots helps quite a bit, and star players take more shots than roleplayers.

Speaking of which, some players will almost never shoot, while others seem to do a decent job of helping out.

I usually use the comp in iso situations, but I will experiment more in the coming days, and keep you posted.
