The Shaq factor : up close and personal

One of the coolest things about this game is they way they got "big guys" right. Ie, a clear differences between 7 footers and small guards. Even cooler, there’s a massive difference between a 300 pound 7 footer like Shaq and a lightweight like Marcus Camby. Not just on offense, but defense…where there’s a really clear difference between who you can ‘back down’ in the paint. I’ve been waiting ages for a game to ‘get this right’ so I have to applaud the guys at EA.

Try playing this game on sideline camera…zoomed in…and play Miami. It’s really cool watching the Big Fella get the ball and just dominate down low. This is the closest any of us will ever get to being on the court and seeing how much of a beast this guy is...

I played the Heat using the Wizards and had Shaq on double team every time he touched it…but he still just overpowered my guys whenever he got the ball deep in the paint. That ‘shoulder into the defender" animation is one of the best things EVER put in a b-ball game IMO. I had times where I’d actually triple team him by controlling my PG and bringing the PG in to assist the double teamers. He’d kick it out to his shooters or just go to the hoop hard, depending on position. I ended up fouling him every time he got the ball. I’ve NEVER done that in a b-ball game.

Shaq is incredibly well done in this game. Other bigs play well also. TD, C Webb, Jermaine O’Neal. But Shaq really * is * Shaq.

Note: I posted in the ESPN forums about how that game does not get ‘bigs’ right. Especially Shaq. It’s pretty much established that LIVE does get Shaq right and ESPN doesn’t. ESPN gets a lot of other things right, so let’s not make this a live v espn thread if that’s okay.

So, how are you guys defending the big fella? What tactics? I’m going to play a full season with the Wizards, running a motion offense, using zone D. I anticipate having to go through Miami.

    totally agree with you monkey.

when i watch Laker games with shaq, whenever he gets good position down low, or gets an offensive rebound, i'm like "oh man here comes the dunk!" i mean, i totally know (and even the commentators) that he's just unstoppable down there in those positions.

and that's what happens in live 05. great stuff. big props to EA.

    how do i stop him?

like in real life, i can't really.

hehe unless he's kinda off. i'm playing superstar and he really gets his numbers everytime i play against miami.

so i just try to stop everyone else. d.wade and company.

Yeah, it's the best LIVE to date. Still has a bit to do to be a real 'hard core' sim (ie real play sets with ten man mo cap would be sweeeeeeeeet, a better play calling method like March Madness 05 seems to have would be nice also)But the series is 'on track'.

            BTW...I said SIDELINE camera above.

I mean to say CENTER COURT camera zoomed in. Play Shaq using that one.

I played again using Washington and the big fella almost broke Etham Thomas's neck on one occasion. I watched the replay back a few times and Thomas looked like he had whiplash when Shaq shouldered into him and dunked.

            Very cool.

Yeah, Shaq is a beast. The only way I've found to stop him is to get him into foul trouble.

                    i agree!
All they have to do is put in these from ESPn 2k5 and it would be perfect:

                    - Post moves combo system. It's a blast especially in a 2 player game. you will be trying to guess what moves your oppopent will do to you.

                    - dribbling animation. dribbling as a pointguard in the half court set in 2k5 is super realistic. it's perfect.

                    - alley oops . 2k5's are much much better

                    - random animations and showtime passing plays during fast breaks
+ like players giving a stare down after an in yo face dunk
+ players looking one way and then dishing in a different direction
+ defenders looking confused and after being left in the dust by a spin move or crossover
+ Jump ball situations (not just at start of game and halftime)

                    - and of course true team playbooks!

They should also add Inside Drive's player tendencies!

Dayumn. all these would make it perfect.

Live can do without this. This isn't Mortal Combat, it's b-ball. I'm not trying to string together post moves unless my name is Hakeem Olajuwon.
